You can even spill some on yourself and be okay.
This I did not know. I thought that any amount would burn you.

As it was explained to me, the rate of evaporation in open air at room temperature exceeds the rate of conduction of skin, so basically it burns off before it burns you. :O I've seen it, though never been brave enough to pour any on myself for no other reason than my own curiosity.

Just be careful. You can wear some cloth gloves if you are worried. I've seen guys gargle with LN2. It looks cool with the vapor coming out of the mouth. You just need to keep moving it around inside your mouth to avoid hurting yourself. Although I heard a story about one guy doing this and immediately drinking something afterwards. The heat from the beverage on the cold teeth supposedly shattered all the teeth in his head, so maybe gargling LN2 isn't the best idea.

**ROFL** I suppose teeth might have a different thermal conductivity than skin. Ouch.

Actually, even if I wanted to, I can't right now. The LN2 tanks that my company uses today are either presurized or dry. So either I squirt the whole room, or I introduce water vapor into the system and clog the line of a highly expensive device. :\ Either way, not good for my career.

I think that I will pass on the gargle idea  Do you know if submersing the whoel board would be the way to go? Also what about cooling it down or warming it back up. Im wwondering if you need to somehow cool it down some before you hit it with the Liquid nitro or vice versa.

I am not sure about that. I have never used LN2 for computer cooling purposes, just good clean fun. Since a board's temp won't drop instantly I would say that immersing a board in LN2 and then letting it sit in there for a little while before turning it on might be a good idea.

If you have any old junk mobos around you could do some testing to see what happens. Also, I do not know how pure LN2 tends to be. If it contains some conducting elements or material, you could be in big trouble, right?

I'm pretty sure it is. It looks and acts like a liquid. It is called "Liquid Nitrogen." What else would it be?

Yeah, there are other gasses that condense at temperatures slightly higher than that of LN2. One is liquid oxygen. I don't know if it conducts (I don't think it should). Other condensed gasses might also be present.

I suppose a simple conduction test could be performed. Get a battery and lightbulb setup and run two wires into a small container of LN2. If the lightbulb stays turned on, there could be trouble. Or do the same thing with a voltmeter. Measure the impedance of LN2.

>LN2 is good clean fun

Liquid nitrogen is -196ºC. That's very very cold. You can survive brief contact with it due to the fact that it immeadiately boils to gas upon contact with a room temperature object and forms a gas layer between the liquid and the object. I regularly flick tubes out of liquid N2 with my fingers, but occasionally, if I'm not quick enough, I'll get a burn. Don't wear absorbent gloves when handling liquid N2, you spill it, it soaks into the glove, your hand freezes into the glove, it's as simple as that. That gargaling with liquid N2 is a bullshit story and incredibly dangerous, don't spread crap like that around.

You'd be much better off using a dry ice / alcohol mix anyway. Dry ice is -78.5ºC. That's still very cold, but won't give you an instant burn, you can hold it in your hand without too much trouble. This temperature won't freeze alcohols like methanol or ethanol so mixing the two together makes a very cold liquid. The advantage of this over liquid N2 is that it's not so cold or dangerous, will last a hell of alot longer than N2 and is easier to get hold of and transport around.

Are there any regulations over dry ice?

Last i checked if you have dry ice left over from anything you MUST by law make a dry ice bomb with a 2 liter bottle.

I doubt there are any regulations governing dry ice. Last I heard, you can buy it at grocery stores in the U.S. You may need to be over 18/21 at worst.

they're no plain liquid. They're really uber-consensed&compressed Nitrogen gas that looks like liquid.
I don't know what kind of LN2 you have dealt with, but any gas become a liquid when it is compressed and/or cooled far enough. The LN2 I had contact with would remain in liquid form at atmospheric pressure until it had warmed up enough and all boiled off.

The container holds the N2 in a highly compressed liquid form at room temperature. Then when the liquid is released into a Dewar (insulated jar) it hits normal pressure but due to Boyle's Law (or some other law related to the Ideal Gas Law) it immediately cools down in response. The N2 will then remain at liquid form at 1 atmosphere of pressure and -196F.

I just finished dispensing something into my toilet that looked alot like liquid. Was that LN2? Have you read the book "The Yellow Stream" by I.P. Freely?

Get well. That's an order. Do it NOW.
Or to be more accurate, sorry to hear you are under the weather. I hope you are back to your old self again.
I hope it wasn't caused by any fumes from your OCing.

Thanks for the comments! I do feel much better but it will take a few more weeks to get back to normal. Ive been having problems that go back to the end of Nov. Ive been fighting complications that all sprung up from a very mild case of food poisoning. Late last week I was told that I had something that was possibly cancer. This is the second time in a year that this has happened. Its not cancer, and everything is going to be ok. I am currently looking for a new Doctor. My current one is obviously trying to make me lose my mind.
