I figured it out! I benchmarked my P4 550(3.4) at 5Ghz.

What I would like to stress about this is that there is NO PERFORMANCE GAIN after 4.2 or 4.3Ghz. In fact the performance goes to crap. CPU clock speed alone doesnt increase performance. Most of you probably know this, but there are others that will have a hard time grasping this. There has been alot of talk about "MORE RAM IS FASTER". Only to a certain point and then it starts to slow your system down. One other thing; PSU's are one of if not the most important component in a high performance system. I dont think that nearly enough emphasis is placed on the importance of a stable PSU.

Ive been trying for over a month to break 5Ghz, and when I finally did it was a real dissapointment. No performance advantage at all past 4.2Ghz. Ive got logs of every single configuration and benchmark attempt that I used over the last couple of months. If any of you have any ideas of how I could organize all the data please let me know. There is alot of valuable info here that im sure could be useful to some of you. Ive got everything from the BIOS settings to charts and graphs of temps and voltage readings. Over 300 benchmark results also. Any suggestions are welcome.

HOT DIGGITY DAM! That's AWESOME dude! I need to shake your hand on that one. Did you get there on water?

There's like a 99% chance that you got no gains after 4.2, 4.3Ghz because from that clock on, your P4 was throttling down, wasting some cycles doing nothing to cool down.

Yes! It took 2 different pumps, one running liquid only to the video card and one to the CPU and Northbridge. Condensation become a real problem but I somehow got by without shorting out the system. It took freezing the liquid to a slush and then packs of Blue Ice to keep the temps down. I couldnt get it to boot unless I was below 20C. You realize how much of a problem that was here in Mississippi.

Theres always got to be an AS5 in the pack! Let me clear this up for you. Im not saying that clock speed doesnt = performance im saying that at this point in the game and with the current hardware that anything over 4.2 - 4.3Ghz is a waste. I have no idea how that factors in AMDs picture.

How goes the search for a liquid nitro storage container so you can go sub-zero?

Yes they have! My benchmarking is just about over with im afraid. As it stands now I can only push my system to the limits late at night after the outside temps drop. After 7:00AM its over with until after midnight. If its that bad now I dont know what the hell im going to do in another month. Ill be doing good to run this rig at stock speeds.

One of the Professors at the University is going to let me use one of theirs. Im trying to work out a deal with some of the Grad students in the Computer science dept so that I can work on that kind of stuff on campus. Im not crazy about the idea of carrying that stuff around and im not sure what if any regulations or laws apply to using it.

Being able to use the campus facilities would be nice - hopefully they won't try to take over the project.

I've got some experience using LN2 (Bruker AXS KRYO-FLEX ... what an awful name), and it's really not anything as dangerous as it seems in the movies. You can even spill some on yourself and be okay. :\ I'm not sure what laws or regulations apply. As far as I've seen there aren't any other than the typical OSHA safety guidelines of empoyers having to notify employees about it and stuff.

LN2 is good clean fun. I used to be a physics grad student and we had some to use in a basic physics lab for undergrads. If idiot freshman can be trusted with it then you can probably handle it.

Hell, I and other physics grad students would fill 2 liter bottles with LN2, and let it warm up until it exploded when we felt like blowing off some steam late at night. It's fun stuff. You can even use it to condense LO2.

The physics department made the mistake of leaving a huge cannister of it in the hallway. Free access to LN2 for all!

The answer is...

2^32 bug > 4.3Ghz

Solution: Install windows service packs

Oh, so there are some uses for 64 bit after all :D
You're right though, this is clearly the explanation.

Huh? Care to elaborate? I always thought that a processor being 32bit had nothing to do with its speed? How does this limitation affect the max speed?

I didnt think that it was regulated but then some guys in another forum flamed the hell out of me about it. They convinced me that it was a big deal now. I remember years ago my grandfather would buy it with no problem. Seems like he would get it in small spray cans.
