P4C800 Deluxe from Asus Support P5?

Whatever they are calling the P5/P4 3.4 and up? I was going to upgrade in November to be ready for the newest games like Doom3 but when I read on here that the P4 3.2GHZ was the last of the of P4 current architecture line I was thinking maybe I will end up waiting for a motherboard that will support the newest arhitecture p4/p5 3.4GHZ CPU. I hate to purchase a motherboard at the end of its life as far as processor upgrades go.

yes it sould support prescott we dont know yet if they will be call P5 or just have a suffix to tell that a Prescott core not a Nortwood.In any case they are still P4 and yes your board will support earlie speed grade like 3.4 and higher but only up to 4 GhZ at best.

k, thanks that is good news to hear. I was thinking I was going to end up waiting for another 3 months or something as the new motherboard market for the newer CPU's emerged.

after the new cpu is release in Q4 they will evolve as P4 socket 478 but in 2004 2h there will be replace by socket T so there wont be much time to upgrade be i suggest that in 1.5 year you upgrade from your actual CPU to the newer prescott when it will be dirt cheap and there will be very good improvement

One year to upgrade is all I really expect. Purchasing a ~$200 cpu is usually about all I spend and wait till the next cpu in that series that will be a nice boost in power lowers to that price range then sell the one I have on ebay and purchase the newer cpu. So, I like my motherboard to last at least a year too before I start thinking I may want to upgrade. I have kept my current motherboard and processor for over a year already and am very happy with its current performance with all games. I know when Doom3 comes out I will want to upgrade my system so if Doom3 is delayed I can wait longer lol.

just by moving from a 3.2 to a 3.4 will give a good 30% increase.

It will have several other enhancements, including twice as much L2 cache and 30% more L1 cache.
