P4C800 Deluxe & iPod Video

I have a 5g iPod Video that I am connecting to my P4C800 Deluxe MB.

THe MB has a P4 2.6 OC'd to about 3.12 I think. Ram at 2-2-2-4 if I recall correctly... Running XP Pro SP2 + Updates

Anyways, when I connect my iPod to the PC, I get a message saying that the device could run faster if it was connected to a USB 2.0 port. I tried switching ports, I tried disconnecting everything USB (except the Keyboard) to see if it was an issue with it being inline with a 1.0 device. I have a 1.0 hub and even tried to unplug it. Nothing works. I can still transfer to the ipod, just at 1.0 speeds. The BIOS is set to 2.0, I even tried forcing the drivers from Asus' website instead of the Windows ones.

Any ideas? Transfering movies takes forEVER at 1.0 speeds!!

If all you have are 1.0 USB ports you will need go buy yourself a USB 2.0 PCI slot card.

Yes, the P4C800 Deluxe has all USB 2.0 ports, that's what's confusing....

And the mobo BIOS is set to 2.0?

That is REALLY strange. I have a P4P800-E which I believe is a little cheaper than your board and mine run at 2.0. I'd contact ASUS tech support and ask them what is up.

I've had things like this happen when OC'ing.
(I have the P4C800-E Deluxe rev 2.0 btw)

Things start "dissapearing" from the hardware panel but without causing errors at extreme FSB's.

On my board the onboard sounds system disappears at 247FSB.
At 254 the onboard NIC goes AWOL.
And at 260+ the SATA RAID controller craps out.

Now here's the interesting bit:
Your USB 2.0 ports are actually identified as 2 devices.
An "USB Universal Host controller" (multiple may be listed)
and an "USB2 Enhanced Host controller"

If the "USB2 Enhanced Host controller" craps out but the others don't your USB 2.0 port is now a USB 1.1 port.

I didn't turn anything off in the BIOS either, they simply dissappear.
And not only in Windows either, when the mobo is booting up and its displaying a list of devices, they are gone there too.

Congrats to Intel and Asus for actually having components "drop dead" at OC'ed speeds instead of crashing the whole board.

[EDIT] 3.12/2.6=1.2 > 200*1.2=240FSB
A 240FSB sounds about right for these boards to start acting funny without custom cooling.
I'm running 250FSB right now. Good thing I don't need the onboard sound. 😛
