OK, I think I understand that the SATA connectors on the P4P800-E Deluxe
can't be used with CD or DVD drives, only with SATA hard disks. But is it
at least possible that a BIOS upgrade will add this capability, or will I
need to plug in a third-party PCI card to use a SATA DVD with this board?

Thanks for any wisdom on this.

If the SATA connectors wont accept a cd or dvd then buy a SATA - IDE
converter and plug your serial dvd into an ide controler.

Excellent - Thanks. I hadn't even thought of that. So far I've found only
one SATA-IDE converter that converts a SATA drive to IDE (there are plenty
that convert IDE drives to SATA) - from Addonics. Are there others around?

Not sure Edward I've never had to use them. I would expect you could get
them. Start by searching online. If you find them somewhere in the world you
could get a local shop to order one.

That's what I did - the Addonics was the only one I found, which was
slightly puzzling. But one is all I need, so the Addonics should be fine....
