I want to up my memory on my P4PE from 768 to 1 Gig. I have Kingston
DS memory 512 and 256.

Local Computer store can not get PC2700 but says I can use PC3200?

Any know if the system can handle that memory?

I would concentrate on getting the right number of "sides"
for each slot. The P4PE has three slots, and slot2 and slot3
are "cross-wired" to each other. If trying to put DIMMs in
both slot2 and slot3, each DIMM must be single sided.

Your 512MB will most likely be double sided, and it goes
in Slot1, nearest the processor.

The two 256MB modules should be single sided. They are
basically 512MB modules, only with the chips on one side
of the module missing. (It is probably possible to make
a double sided 256MB module, and that is what you don't want.)

The BIOS should take care of the speeds. Using the SPD chip
on each DIMM, it reads the timing info, and uses the slowest
module, to determine how to set up the modules. So, your
512MB module in Slot1 will probably dictate how the whole thing
is set up. The PC3200 module can run at DDR333, no problem.
It can probably run as slow as DDR200.

It should, keeping in mind that it would probably be running at PC2700
speeds. If I am wrong on this, I am sure someone will step up and let us
know.

I tired to replace the 256 ds chip is slot 2 with a SS samsung 512.
the system worked. but Windows went crazy. programs started crashing
and I was not in the mood to do a reinstall,
So I pulled the SS 512 and put the old chip back.

My plan is to use 2 PC3200 DS Kingston chips. SLots 1 & 2
does this sound correct?

If using two double sided modules, slot1 and slot2 is correct.
Slot 3 cannot be used then, when slot1 and slot2 have their
double sided sticks. That is because all the control signals
have been used up by slot2, leaving none on slot3.

You can fill slot 2 or 3 with a DS module, as long as the other is
empty. I believe one of the later BOIS updates allowed this. I have
a P4PE and 2 PC3500 Mushkin DS 512 modules. One in Slot 1 and the
other in Slot 3, works fine and gives a bit more air between the
modules..
