Welp!! I was going to upgrade my Mobo and processor but seeing that the P4s are all done with. I decided to wait for the P5 to come out to those components now. My question is, is there a release date on the P5s? I was going to upgrade from a asus p4b533 to a p4c800. From a 2.4b clocked at 2.7 to a 3.0c. However, I do not see the use un upgrading until the p5s come out. I took earlier advice and upgraded from 2 gigs of geil pc2700 ultra to 2 gigs 3500 ultra. I have also viewed the new p4s as a step compariable to the 9700 pro to 9800 pro, yes there is a preformance boost, but its just best to wait to something much greater comes out. The P4s will dramticly jump down in price, and provide cheaper prices for those who still will want a P4 system.

I do admit I have seen a few other students where I live go out and upgrade from a 9700pro to 9800 just to have the latest and greatest and also to the 3.2c. And they are already wanting to go to the p5. I think doing something like that is a waste of money as people lay down a few grand every few monts instead of waiting a year or close to it. Newer technology forces the market downward. Esp. rite now seeing how the P5 and Ati r420 is just around the corner. So my overclocked gaming system will be fine for now.

Anyways just venting my view with a question.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. What is it that it can't do?

You guys have way to much money. But don't let that stop you from shiping your old parts my way any time. I'll find a home for them for longer than 6 months.

I agree with flashpan, i'll take your cpu whenever you ugrade it...no problem...
You guys do have too much money i have a 700mhz PIII and i think i will stick with it for some time, its fine for light games and websurfing...i could see how you would need a better proc for intensive games but still you don't need the best of the best to play even those games

I agree... you just have way too much money on your hands there.

For web surfing, I'm using a 5-year (or so) old PIII 550Mhz on P3V133 with PC-133 SDRAM. The components were actually state-of-the-art back then... But one SCSI-CD recorder already got busted. Mobo, CPU, memory, HD, everything is still up and running well.

For real games, I just use a 933Mhz P3. 6 months ago I upgraded it with a GF4 Ti4200, and it's still perfect for my current purposes.

But I do plan on upgrading by the turn of this year or maybe early 2004 (read:*doom3* *doom3* *doom3*). I'm hoping to go with a Prescott and, if possible, a Grantsdale chipset (depending on how things go, I might be willing to wait a little for it... or not). And, of course, a top-of-the-line graphics card.

I've been using computers ever since I use glasses (well, OK, I'm just 20 years old, and I've used them since I was 11 or so) and I only had three computers in the mean time. So I change CPUs every three years, on average, and that's actually OK with me, as long as I get excellent quality parts when I do upgrade.

I'm still using my PIII 1.0Ghz. I was going to buy a new computer this summer, but I think I will also wait for the P5 to come out. Assuming that it is really a lot better than the P4 w/ HT. Damn, I need a new vid card tho, my Geforce2 GTS is not holding up anymore. Oh well :s
