Is it true that there will be a Pentium 5 in October????? Does anyone know if it will still be socket 478??? Does that mean if I buy a $150 P4 now, will it only be worth like $50 when P5 comes out??

There is a new, revamped core named Prescott coming up. It is scheduled for October; however, I don't think we've seen confirmation that it will be called a Pentium 5. That's still a possibility, though.

Current quality motherboards, like P4P800, will most likely support the initial versions of this new processor. It might be around 20% faster per clock than Northwood, according to some estimates, but it's hard to be certain. It is supposed to go against the Athlon 64, and it is built on 90nm technology, which is currently completely new. It also has twice the number of transistors than Northwood.

Hehe, no. Intel caps the lowest price on their CPU's. I doubt your $150 P4 will drop below $100 for the next 3 years!
