As the title says, I'm paying for 1 Gigabit per second internet. When i first got it i was only getting around 100 megs/s. I quickly realized my ethernet was Cat5. I immediately bought a Cat6 ethernet cable. I run speedtest and i get 234 down and ~500 up. I made sure to turn off wifi and disconnect all other ethernets so My main rig is the only thing taking downstream. I've gone into the config and changed the duplex to port 1 (myrig) to 1G and full. Everyother port is at auto. (shouldn't matter with this being the only thing plugged in. Still only getting what i said above. Any tips to get it to the speed advertised?

More up than down? Sounds like you need to call AT&T. Sure you can try rebooting your router (actually, I'm sure they will have you do that too) and computer, etc., but if you can upload at 500 Mbps there is no reason you shouldn't be able to download that fast. Ok, a couple caveats ... if you hit a particularly busy speed test site you may have received a false result. Try a couple others, just to be sure. Also, if your router has a bandwidth limiting type of QoS that you were messing with, then that could be an issue. Were you changing settings on your router? Let us know.

I've scheduled a tech to come out. I find it odd that using Att's speedtest i get higher results. 907 down, 400-2.3 gbs up. Another speedtest site has my speed around 20 mbps down and up. Confused on all the variance. I've been charged $100 for their tech to come out once before since it "was my ethernet" that caused the issue last time. I don't want to get hit with it again due to variance in sites speed. I've checked my Ethernet port on my Mobo and it is rated at 1 G through network and sharing options. The ethernet is Cat6. I've used speedtest.net for years and haven't seen a variance in the Mbps/8 for MB/s correlated through steam downloads. Steam doesn't have a cap for download speeds so I should hit 1 Gigabit/s Divided by 8 for true steam speed. With no other connections that would be ~125 MB/s down. Of course I can't reasonably believe there wouldn't be at least a ~10% speed variance in what ATT is giving me through speedtest. When I had spectrum 1-2 months back i was paying for 200 Mbps down and was getting in ~220 down. that's 10% up and steam speeds reflected that.

The results were fairly similar before I changed the Ethernet on port 1 to be at 1G full duplex vs the AUTO it was set to prior. Just in case that was the issue. I also Unplugged all other ethernets from the modem and turned off wi-fi on the modem. Still relatively the same speeds.

You are probably getting such a high result from AT&T because you never have to leave their network. If you can get 907 mbps down then clearly your equipment is fine and I suspect that AT&T will say thiers is too. 2.3 Gbps up??? Did I read that right?

Speed testing sites get busy. The routers between you and them get busy. A little slow down here or there can have dramatic effects on a speed test.

You talked about the theoretical speed for a Steam download (125 MBps), but I didn't see you state an actual (I am still working on my first cup of coffee, so ...).

It peaks at 2.3 Gbps up so at some point during their sites testing I hit 2.3 It finalizes between 300 and 900 Mbps up. Deleted and reinstalled PUBG. 12.8 GB total. My peak currently 4 gigs into download is 45.9 MBps. That's roughly 360 Mbps. Speedtest is very close to that. Att is not.

Unless there is some kind of physical fault in your cable or ports, then AUTO should give you the highest speed possible. So there should be no difference between AUTO and 1G full duplex. Are you saying you see a difference?

So, I would cancel the tech coming out. I don't think he is going to find anything wrong and you will get another bill. If you can get close to the advertised speed from any speed test, then they are going to say the issue the internet and they don't control the internet. I know that's a crappy answer, but I would hate to see you spend money you don't have to.

But why would i see a difference from steam. 200 Mbps with spectrum and I was getting 22 MBps through steam. That is really close to advertised speeds Vs the 200-300 Down speedtest show and the 50-60 max speeds steam shows that I get with att. When the advertised speed is 1 Gigabit.

The advertised speed is up to 1 Gigabit and they will be happy to show you that you can get close to that on their speed test, so they are going to say no problems found. I worked for a phone company and their promise is always about "the last mile". Once you get out onto the internet all bets are off. Maybe it's a bum router and next week it gets replaced ... maybe not. Maybe AT&T is throttling (I hope not, but legally they can now).

This is an older article, but it's an indication that what your seeing is nothing new:

So I don't know if this adds anything but right now I am posting this from my phone as my pc no longer has connection to the internet. Randomly I will lose connection through all internet browsers like Chrome and edge. I cannot access anything. Not even my modem. I get a no internet error on the browsers but steam is still online?

It kinda sounds like you might have a virus on your system using a proxy. There should be no reason for your PC to disconnect from internet like that when someone is using the xbox.

I would run the following softwares on your desktop first. Make sure it is clean before we continue with troubleshooting.

Another issue could be your NIC but lets rid the system of any possible malware\viruses before troubleshooting that.

Try running the following:

1. CCleaner (run cleaner and register cleaner)
https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

2. Malwarebytes
https://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

3. Adware remove tool
https://filehippo.com/download_adwcleaner/

4. Spybot S&D
https://filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/

When that is all done. Also open internet explorer. Check the following location: internet options>connections>lan settings> make sure "use proxy server" is not checked and that "automatically detect settings" is checked.

Also check your network adaptor. Is your PC using a static IP? Try removing the static information and letting it pull DHCP.

Spybot isn't letting me run a scan. I try to update missing signatures. It updates some, says more updates available, i press it and nothing. Adw cleaner found somethings and deleted them. I don't have internet again.

I ran all of them but spybot. I decided to run rogue killer as well. It has found 19 items already after all others (minus spybot) have found less than 5. Adw cleaner found all of those. I run CCleaner once a month so not too many issues. Malwarebytes didn't find anything in a quick scan.
