Question PC Boot issues - Post Codes 15 & 46

Hi all,

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III RGB 360mm
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000MHz 2x32GB
Mbd: GIGABYTE X870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 ICE
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 - 12G Gaming
PSU: Corsair CS650M
SSD: 990 PRO 1TB M.2 & 980 PRO 500GB M.2
1x NZXT 120mm Rear Fan, 2x 140mm underneath fans and 3x NZXT model 120mm’s.
Case: NZXT H6 Flow

Recently built a new system a few days ago and have been running into a few main issues.

When booting the pc up, post codes 15 and 46 and flashing and the monitor screen stays black. I read that 15 was RAM related but have no idea with the 46.

Have tried placing one ram in each slot and vice versa for the identical stick. It did boot up once with one of the sticks but the next time not.

Strange thing is, when the ram was inserted into the same slots as when built, I got a boot and the pc run perfectly fine. I then power down for a shut down and it doesn’t boot at all, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me why the consistency is like this.

Had a look at the guide on the pinned part of the forum and have followed along but would also like some further advice if any is available.

PC performs fine when it does boot but this problem persists every time I boot so there's obviously a problem somewhere. All of the components are compatible and BIOS is up to date.

I noticed I have wiring underneath the motherboard which could be an issue but post code 15 is memory related as far as I know so wouldn’t understand why this would effect it, but should I change this?

Some motherboards require that the first physically installed RAM be placed in a specific slot.

This motherboard?

Per Section 2-4, Page 15:

"When installing memory modules, be sure to install in the DDR5_A2 socket first."

Try that.

Could it be that my memory is 400mHz fast for my processor?

I read that my processor directly from the AMD website supports up to 5600.

It reads exactly as copied below:

2x1R DDR5-5600
2x2R DDR5-5600
4x1R DDR5-3600
4x2R DDR5-3600

Also, would resetting CMOs and removing it's battery help at all?

Yes that is the correct motherboard.

I did install this one correctly.

Have found that the max speed of my processor only supports up to 5600 mHz speed and my current RAM is 6000. Would this be an issue with the incosistent booting issues I've been receiving?

The motherboard supports you up to 8200(oc)
You are covered by the memories you have, the issue is with which ones does your motherboard work well.

I've recently built a brand new system, all parts bought from retailers online apart from the GPU & PSU. I've had booting issues with this PC for a few days now, mainly with the motherboard flashing different post codes and a red light between DRAM and flashing onto the CPU part.

The numbers I get often are:
15 (usually straight after pressing power on button)
46 (usually straight after pressing power on button)
08 (usually when computer does boot and I am running windows, changes from A0 to 08 sometimes)
A0 (usually when computer does boot and I am running windows)

I have tried changing the RAM slots each individually, booting with 1 stick each time, resetting the CMOS, etc, but nothing is currently working.

The main problem I'm having is very inconsistent booting. My screen stays black 80% of the time, and then sometimes it boots into windows and the PC runs fine, with the post codes still displayed on my motherboard, but no red lights.

Does anybody have any advice for what I can do to fix this? Please refer to the post codes I receive when booting above ^

I've been made aware that my RAM was 6000MHz and running 400 above what my CPU manufactured AMD allows up to on their website directly, so we pushed this back and turned off EXPO, but receive the same problems. The 08 post code referes to insufficent CPU power, so I thought that maybe I was overdoing it with the RAM speeds and the CPU didn't have enough power to generate these RAM speeds, although my motherboard supports these speeds.

I have an old power supply, the Corsair CS650M, so maybe this could be an issue for the problems I'm receiving on boot?

Should I switch to a non-beta BIOS for stability?

Would appreciate any help here!

Anything with a green label on it from Corsair is a dumpster fire. I would swap the unit out ASAP for something reliably built, with 750W of power at the entire system's disposal.

Did you ever manage to fix this problem?
I have the exact same problem and error codes. I just build a new system and encountered this problem instantly. A lot of times it just doesnt boot and screen stays black forever and looks exaclty like in the vid of OP (error codes 15 & 46), except the rgb on my ram is mostly off and sometimes flashing on for a second. All the other rgb lights etc work. Then I reattach the ram and it suddenly boots just fine, while it works it displays codes a0 or 08 randomly. Does anyone know whats going on?

My setup is:
Mobo: GIGABYTE X870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 ICE
CPU: 9900x
RAM: Kingston fury beast 64gb 6000mhz cl30 1.35v (2x32gb)
PSU:NZXT C850 atx3.1
GPU: RTX 4070 TI Super
