Question PC cannot handle games after CPU upgrade

Started yesterday when I upgraded my intel i3 8350k to an i7 9700k, games have a noticeable decrease in framerate and task manager shows CPU usage as 98 - 100%

I have a intel i7 9700k, a GIGABYTE 7370P D3-CF motherboard and 16gbs of ram and already tried messing around with the bios, nothing worked.

Watch the CPU clock speed. That Z370P D3 has a fairly weak VRM so throttling is a possibility.

I would do a clean win 10 install although it should would work

Yes, if you're having any issues you need to have a clean Windows install after a major system update like that.

I wouldn't think a CPU change would require an OS reinstall.

OP, did you reset the BIOS to default settings?

Depends on if the OS picks up on the new cores or not...if it still thinks it only has 4 cores it would explain why it's pegged at 100%.
OP can try the msconfig method first though if that's the case.
