Hello, I am planing to upgrade my PC soon and I was wondering which way should i go:

My specs are:
-Motherboard:Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 (AM3+)
-CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2Ghz)
-GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB
-Power supply: Corsair TX650w
-RAM (2x2)GB Apacer DDR3-1333
-HDD:Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 1TB
-PC Case CoolerMaster Elite 430

I have around 900eur budget maybe a little more.

Way1(cheap):Get new AMD processor and GPU, and get an SSD,16gb ram and a cooler.
Way2:Could I salvage my power supply and my case and go for a intel build this time? Since AMD has bad CPU's atm (slower than intel).

Which components would you reccomend?

Solution

Personally I'm going to be looking at nVidia and AMD's new offerings for a highly capable video card not only for gaming but for VR as well. Hoping for a lower priced solution...

Really you could pair that CPU with ANY GPU and there wouldn't be a speed issue on the CPU side.
I personally WAS gonna get a GTX 970 but I really want to see what these next gen cards are capable of since they are expected to sport HBM2.

I recommend that GPU (GTX 970) or better and you'd be in gaming heaven for several years!

My system had similar specs. (Same CPU different MB) I would recommend you upgrade like I did.
I bought:
Intel Core i5 6600K
ASROCK Z170 Gaming K4
Cooler Master 212 Evo
16 GB of ram

I'm keeping my case (and fans), power supply, DVD drive, hard drives and video card (HD 7850). In about 10 months or so I will be upgrading my video card as well...
