Hello.

Hello

I recently build a gaming pc.
But after a while it shuts down randomly.
The screen goes black and 3 seconds later the pc shuts off
At first i thought it was due to overheating.
But thats not the case i think.

My specs are:
CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 with standard cooler
Graphics Card: XFX Radeon HD7870 Double Disspatchion
Motherboard: MSI B75-ma P45
RAM: 2X Corsair 8GB DDR3
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Bklack 2 terabyte
SSD: Samsung 840 evo 120gb
Power Supply: Corsair CX500 500watt

The temps are (not Gaming):
CPU: 25/30C
Graphics card: 30C
Motherboard: 20/30/45C
The temps with gaming (high demanding games like cod black ops II):
CPU: 45/50C
Graphics Card: 55/60/65C
Motherboard: 20/30/45

Could it be the Power supply overheating?? Cause it shuts down even on the desktop some times but it happens quicker whilst gaming.

Sorry if its bad English Im from Europe

Thanks in advance

Solution
SM Bus controller is the chipset driver. Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller is for your USB so your usb may not work correctly if you don't install the driver.

Here is the site to download it (http://us.msi.com/product/mb/B75MAP45.html). Select your OS and look for chipset and usb

That maybe the issue since chipset is really important for the cpu to work correctly
those temp isn't that high. Are you sure your pc is shutting down due to overheat?

To get a list of shutdown/restart event with date and time, follow the step below

Steps:

1. Open Event Viewer with Eventvwr.exe
2. Navigate to Windows Logs\System
3. Right-Click on it and select "Filter Current Log…"
4. You can track down its shutdown type, date and time, and who has shutdown it.

Get the event it was last shutdown

The temperatures do not seem bad. When you installed your display drivers did you do it from the DVD? Perhaps you are not running the most recent drivers? Also, do you have a means of testing the PSU? It may be malfunctioning and not putting out enough power? Please describe when your computer shuts down (Idle/gaming?).

well it just happens when im gaming. It doesnt matter if im (in cod) shooting or standing still and doing nothing. The screen just goes black and 2/3 seconds later the pc shuts off. Sometimes when i boot it up again I get no screen input

Well i looked at it. I looked at Critical. Event ID: 41. Source: Kernel-Power. Log: System. Last Hour: 0. Last 24hrs: 1. 7days: 5

I remember it shutting down a couple of times this week but im not sure if it has happend 5 times :/

This is something hardware/driver related. Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager. See if any device has a warning over it (usually the one expanded has a warning)

Someone said this is caused by not having the cpu fan connected. Check to make sure the cpu fan is running

It is also possible that the psu isn't enough to power your pc.

I looked at it and the only warnings are on the SM Bus controller and Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller.
They dont have a driver. what do they do actually?

I installed this one: Intel Chipset Driver
is it correct?

yes, are you using Win8? They don't have the USB driver for Win8, but they do have it for Win7. So, try installing that to see if it work

okay im using win 7 64 bit so do i need usb 3.0 driver?

It never hurt to install it. Better to have all device working even if you don't use USB3.0. But they do have the driver for Win7 64bit so I say install it

ok thanks. i didnt restart my pc yet so ill know tomorrow if it has worked with the chipset driver 😀

THANKS MAN YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! 😀. It worked!!!!!! Yesterdday I played over 6 hours of MInecraft and CoD and the pc didnt shut off. You sir are AMAZING!!! 😀 😀 😀 :) :) :)
