I noticed lastnight that my pc shut off, and didn't think anything of it until i went back later to do some late night gaming that the computer would no longer turn on. I disconnected and reconnected plugs, tried different outlets, looked for loose wiring, did anything I could with just me eyes and hands availible to the case.

It was then I noticed the blue standby light on my motherboard was no longer lit either(nforce 790i ultra board), which has never happened since I took it out of packaging when I built the PC in 2008, unless the computer is unplugged. I even tried the reset and power buttons directly on the motherboard.

I don't know if my PSU randomly took a ***, or my motherboard somehow fried. Everything was just fine prior, I only walked away and left it idle for a couple hours. Nothing out of ordinary.

Theres no lights, no movement, no sounds, no smells.

Everything is just off.

Would if I had another on hand. Mine costs me aaround $250(1000w). If anything i'd have to wait and dig out my old alienware from 2004 dismantle it and see that psu could power at least the board.

The components? Um, two sata hardrives, two cd/dvd-r drives, geforce gtx 280, sounblaster audigy card, two sticks of 2gb ddr3.

I tried the paperclip moments ago, but theres tons of black wires to go with the green, so I couldn't figure it out, nor did I have a silver paperclip around, just some colored one.

I just don't know why it would go out randomly like that. The pc sometimes sits around pwered on overnight dozens of times.

I've looked over the board countless times now and can't see why it isn't working. Is it just the the 24pin connector from the psu that needs to work to give it light?

Okay. I used the paperclip i had, just removed the rubber coating with nail clippers. Got both ends stuck in the pin sockets, tried both blacks even, flipped the power switch on psu and nothing happened. Maybe i was doing it wrong, or the paper clip was ***, or it just really is dead somehow.

I wouldn't think just under 4 years of use would kill it. It was an expensive one from newegg.
