[SOLVED] PC Upgrade Advice - Haswell

Hi all, I currently running a PC from a 4th-Gen Intel system, all is working fine.
I am looking into possibly upgrading my RAM to 16GB and GPU but I'm still running DDR3.
Have dipped into some casual SIM-RACING, eg. F1, AC

F1 2021 PC Requirements - Looks like the PC will run it (minimum requirements) but not sure how to compare against Recommended.

Would anyone have some recommendations for my system or do you think it's still quite robust??

Probably run alright at a low resolution or low settings on 1080p.

Not sure I would invest too much in that system, but if you can pick up another 8GB stick of ram, that will get dual channel working. That should improve the CPU performance significantly for games.

As for what you should do, i3-10105F, B560 motherboard, and a 2x8GB DDR4 3200 Mhz kit would be around $200. On your own for a faster GPU though, used market should have things like the GTX1070 and GTX1080 for $300-400, might be able to track down an RX580 8GB as well.

With that monitor purchase in the future, you are going to need a lot more. Consider an i5-11400 or a Ryzen 5600X as a good mid-range choice. i7 or Ryzen 7 if you want a little more performance (Many sims are heavy on the CPU requirements)

RTX 3060Ti or a RX6700XT would be my recommendation for an ultrawide, though faster the GPU the better for that.

Thanks mate, would it be worth it just to upgrade the the GPU and RAM? Say to a 1070 or better and 16GB.

And running a 27” QHD 144Hz screen.. Would this be ok?

Not like it won't work, but it isn't ideal. A quad core is the bare minimum for most titles these days.

i3 is still a quad core, but has hyperthreading, basically equivalent to a 6th or 7th gen i7.

8th gen i7-8700k was 6 cores 12 threads, which is today's i5 and Ryzen 5 and so on.

GPU will certainly help with higher resolutions. Minimum frame rate will be determined by your CPU. Maximum by the GPU.
