Hello Everyone,

Im pretty knowledgeable about PC's, but im very conflicted on upgrading my CPU

Currently have:
i7 8700k - AIO cooler
rtx 3090 FE
32gb ddr4 3200mhz
Aorus 7 z370
1000w psu

My CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, and in games like Escape From Tarkov, its really starting to buckle
Ive considered upgrading to the i9 9900k as my MOBO supports it, but benchmarks show its not really worth it.

My questions is, what would be the best thing to get so my GPU isnt being bottlenecked as much.

I dont mind second hand parts and i dont really want to go beyond £300 GBP.

Thanks guys!

Happy New Year!

That would be moot. Your upgrade path is limited while on the same motherboard. You've stated an AIO cooler but what is the make and model of said cooler and how old is said cooler?

1000w psu
Make and model of your PSU and it's age?

Either of these would be a worthwhile upgrade path;

You will possibly need to get a new bracket for your AIO, but usually you can get those for little to no cost from the manufacturer. This is a little over what you want to spend, but will be a pretty big leap over what you have now.

If you still have the AM4 bracket for your current cooler, 5700x3d is also a good option.

Happy new year to you too!

I dont know the model, other then its platinum rated, i bought used so i reckon 4-6 years old

The coolor is a twin radiator cooler master one, pretty basic, though since i got that used, i cant change to AMD sockets since i dont have the bracket

Would an LGA1151 bracket work on an 1700?
