Hello. I'm not a PC exptert but I've always understood how to build one and work my way around. Recently I built a new PC for myself and wanted to give my old PC to my parents who are using an even older PC I gave them years ago.I thought that I all I had to do was slap the boot drive from the old pc to the newer one. It boots and monitor displays fine but all of the USB ports stop working. I tried everything from restarting to using different hardware and clearing the CMOS battery, nothing. Mouse and keyboard work fine in BIOS but once it boots to windows they shut off, same goes for all of the other 8 USB ports.
SO here is how it stands spec wise:
The old PC has an AMD FX-4300, Gigabyte GTX 960, Asus M5A97 motherboard, 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM and a Kingston 60GB running Windows 7
The new PC I am upgrading it to has an AMD 5 2600X, Gigabyte RTX 2060, Gigabyte b450 motherboard, 2x8GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM using the same Kingston 60GB SSD running Windows 7
As far as I've read these newer specs should be able to run Windows 7, but something with the operating system is my only guess as to whats causing the issue. Once I plug this boot SSD to the old PC it works perfectly fine.
My question is can this issue be fixed somehow ? I don't want resort to upgrading/reinstalling the operating system all because the USB ports stop working, seems excessive for now.
