PC3-10600 or PC3-12800 RAM?

Which Ram would i get the most performance boost out of?

This is my current ram

and Crucial.com says both from Tiger "should work?"... even though the current is only PC3-10700 which i can't find on Tigerdirect. below is the picture of Crucial.

First u need to makesure your mobo support 12800 profile out of box or u had knowledge to set it manually....

meanwhile i cannot open the link, my sugesstion is...
What u need PC 12800 that had CL 9 minimum... (lower CL is better but pricier... CL9 is good enough)

if u get the one in the pic that with CL 11, I think it'll not much of improvement since lower latency/timing had same effect as better/higher ram frequency,,,,,

Also keep in mind that not all apps can get benefit from ram speed / bandwith improvement..

@ rdc85 Thank you for you reply. I thought the CL11 would not be as good as the CL9 but wasn't sure. So thank you for the information.

@ abekl Its a generic motherboard of somekind. I haven't been able to find any info on it other than emachines website.

Edit: Just noticed that eMachines says the board will only support 1333mHz Ram. But crucial says upto 1600mhz.. Should i just go with my Computer manufacturer suggestions?

U could try using 12800 dims runing in 1333 with better / tighter timings. u it means u O.C. the card.. it will need some knowledge to do it..

it much better than force it into pc 12800 / 1600.....

Thanks guys now that I have a little more info I feel more confident in buying memory.

And as such I think I'll just go with PC3-10600 since its slighty cheaper than pc3-12800 and I hopefully won't have to change any system settings.

Since it same as yours (PC-10600) no setting need to be changed..

PC-10700 is just advertaise naming, it the same as PC-10600 same as PC-10666 (10700 round it up, 10600 round it down, 10666 is correct one) 😀

Im hoping someone here can help me with a question on ram. Im trying to get 8 gigs for my Asus m4a79xtd-evo. Which would be faster ddr3-1600 with a cas latency of 9 or ddr3-1333 with a cas latency of 7. Or would i never notice the difference?? Right now i have 4 gigs of ddr3-1600 timed at 9-9-9-24 and want to upgrade

I'm not sure about the performance boost of CL7 @ 1333 mhz vs CL9 @ 1600mHz. Hopefully someone else will answer that question for you. But depending on the price ratio I'm gonna bet that this is gonna be the best bang for buck, depending on your budget. And what country etc. your located at.

Thanks for the link but to me that seems worse then what i have right now, i would be better off just getting 2 more sticks of what i already have. ive been looking into this:

The PNY would be a good deal i think as long as your mobo supports 1.65v. reason i say that is some reviews i read on tigerdirect and newegg show that some people have trouble running the 1.65v ram modules although they can be turned down to 1.5v according to an article on this forum.

Edit: Then you could max out your system Ram for the cost of the Vengence RAM

Yea ive been seriously procrastinating for 2 hours and have looked up like every option there is for ram. compared to what you just showed me i've found this

I think going by this .. The best bet would be the 1333mhz at CL7 .. But like i've said not 100%sure. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

its all good thanks for the replies. I think im going to go for the gskill ares, i saw some reviews on new egg and people said that they clocked it down at 7-7-7-24 at 1333 mhz so i can just get it and clock it down if i decide to.

yup timing (latency) is more important than bandwidth speed... (there a limitation by mobo about higher bandwith speed)

that why CL 6 / 7 / 8 price so much higher.. (O.C. try to buy cheaper CL 9 and then tighten the timing their self, mine CL9 tighten to 8)

also all higher ram can run in lower mode and automatically reduce it's timing...

PC 12800 (1600) CL9 usually can run (automatically) in CL7 in PC 10666 (1333) mode so they are basically the same between PC 12800 CL9 with PC 10666 CL7.

To get better performance u need set it to CL6, but it considered O.C. there a risk in it and it might not stable...

there are some different but u can ignore it.... (I'm to lazy to explain hehe 😀)

Hey you seem to really understand all this so what else needs to be done if i reduce the timings? say i have pc10666 cl 7 , how can i make it run at cl6 ? or pc12800 from cl9 to cl8. in my rig right now i have 4 gigs of g,skill pc12800 cl 9 and the other day i tried to reduce the timings to 8 but then my computer wouldnt post.

Not all rams created the same, (same as grafic card, proc, some can withstand abuse some not)...

but u will need a good mobo.... to start playing with O.C.

my advise is to open new threat in o.c section, so it not stray away to much the original thread. u also will get better support there (well more head is better than one head 😀)
