PCI Express x16 Interfaces

I see a lot of these questions posed, but none of them asks or answerers exactly what I am wondering.

I understand the differences between 1, 1.2, and 2.0.

But, if I bought a GPU that the specifications state 2.0 is the interface, will the card function on a PCI Express x16 1.0?

One particular thread I read somewhere, stated that there is no card that runs specifically on 2.0, but is compatible with 2.0, is this still true? Or are modern GPUs being put strictly onto 2.0 now?

I may be missing background information, but I am trying to understand something.

This could also be in the wrong forum. I can't imagine so considering the interfaces are on motherboards.

^ Concur, with minor exception. Some 2.1 GPU cards will not work on some of the early 1.0 Motherboards so need to check for compatability in that case.
