PCIE 2.0 running at 2.5Ghz, why?

Hi,

Both the mobo and the video card are pcie 2.0. Therefor the clock speed should naturally be 5Ghz and not the older 2.5 Ghz. Any ideas as to why? Its an ECS Gf8200A, and there is no way to adjust this in the BIOS.

Perhaps. But what then does this line from an Anand Tech article mean?

"PCI Express 2.0 builds upon PCI Express 1.x primarily through the doubling of the clock rate to 5.0GHz (up from 2.5GHz). "

Good question. In Ntune, on the motherboard page, there is a slider that has 2.5Ghz on one end and 5Ghz on the other. Incidently, the bus link identified in Everest, GPUZ or 3dMark, states PCIE1.0x16.

So I am wondering why would a 2.0 card on a 2.0 board run at the 1.0 clock speed and identify as a1.0 bus link. Does this make sense?

Update the BIOS, NB chipset driver. I guess it would solve it.

Or, you running a 1.0 16x GPU, and he detects the speed hes running atm. The latter is my best bet.

Both BIOS and Drivers are up to date. Card is En9800gt. The wiki piece seems to indicate pcie clock rate should be 2.5Ghz, while Anand Tech article claims 5.0Ghz. Am I reading this right?
