Hey everyone, I’ve had a weird issue with my pc turning on but not posting or getting any signal to the monitor. This pc has worked before but it recently locked up and black screened on me a few times where a simple restart fixed it. Now it turns on but no post. The red vga light is on but I’ve tried a lot of the troubleshooting here.
I’ve swapped for old ram sticks that worked
I’ve swapped gpus that worked
I’ve swapped pcie slots
I’ve tested the monitor and cables with a separate pc.
I’ve taken the battery out and unplugged psu and cleared cmos.
I’ve unplugged everything except for the display port cable and tried 1 stick of ram in the different ports.
I’ve tried a new PSU
I’ve tried a new MOBO
I’ve cleaned everything off and put it back together.
I have not swapped cpus but my current cpu has no bent pins.

The vga light being on makes me think it’s an issue with the gpu but I think I’ve literally swapped or tested everything but a new cpu. And this pc has been used for 3 years now, no issues or problems until this happened randomly.

Thanks for the help and advice!

My current build is a
X470 gaming plus max
2070 super
Ryzen 9 3900x

"The VGA light on your motherboard is part of the motherboard's POST (Power-On Self-Test) system. If the light remains on after booting, it generally indicates that there is a problem with the graphics card or its connection to the motherboard." If you have integrated graphics, try that with your GPU removed, or if you can borrow another graphics board for troubleshooting.

Hey dale, in my post above you can see I tried swapping for a known working GPU as well as swapping pcie slots for my current gpu and the same problem persists, thanks for your attempt to help!

I don’t have integrated graphics, as in my original post you can see I only have a Ryzen 3900x, again thanks for your attempt to help!

It sounds like you might have to take it to a shop, unless you get better ideas from someone else here.

Maybe the suggestions at this site might be of assistance: https://tinyurl.com/yc6urwsu

dale you must be trolling me, you have provided an astounding lack of value to this post by leaving generic troubleshooting tips that are irrelevant if you have even skimmed my post, then you suggest taking it to a professional. I wish I could but I’m literally in bf nowhere, the north shore of Alaska. But again, thank you for your attempts to help!

I would guess it's the traces in the mobo, but you've said you already tried that.
The only remaining possibility is the CPU. Even if the pins are fine, it can still die for some random reason.

And by your comments, you have displayed and astounding lack of courtesy to one who is trying to help you. I had no way of knowing where you are, or your level of competence and only wished to help one who appeared to need help. I will certainly refrain from commenting to your posts in the future.

Have you been able to test the GPU in another system? That should probably be you first step.
Did you try booting the system withouth the GPU installed (even if you don't have integrated GPU) to see if you are still getting the VGA light?

I have not been able to test the gpu in a different setup, I still get the vga light when booting without a gpu.

But I have tried a working gpu in my setup in different pcie slots and had the same issue, you think that would rule out gpu issue?

solved, for now. New processor worked first try and was able to POST.
Weird that I kept getting a vga light on for my x470 gaming plus motherboard and it would not post but all the fans would turn on and the rig would light up.
Also weird that my processor (Ryzen 9 3900x) died randomly after sitting in there for 3 years without moving with adequate temps.
Thank you @Notton for providing the only relevant and useful feedback in this thread.

Nice.
You must understand finding an error in the system is a trial an error process. The VGA light being turned on even though the GPU was not installed narrows it down to the CPU or Motherboard. If you have spare parts to test each component, that's great and is the best way to test if you can.

As you mentioned yourself, it's rare the CPU just dies unless under stress. You still may want to troubleshoot a bit. CPU that dies out of the blue is usually related to Power failure or bad overclocking.
