Raise it to 1.4 and don't worry about it, next try to raise FSB to 205 and save settings... then bench again and compare numbers.....leave multiplier alone for now...

Later on if not as stable as you want, you lower multiplier in increments by .5 and raise FSB a little more (210)...let me know the outcome....

hmm...interesting...When I overclocked my 550 when it was unlocked, all I did was raise the voltage to 1.4v and the multiplier to 17.5x and it ran stable...the CPU is a black edition, it's meant to be overclocked with the miltiplier.
Anyway, if one way doesn't work, try the other...

You can overclock the chip in different ways i just want him to go low and gradually increase in increments till he gets the speed desired. In order to get a real overclock with a black edition chip you normally max out the multiplier in this case to 17.5 (1.4v) and to go higher from there you have to lower multiplier and raise the FSB.. i got 3.854Ghz (1.44v) FSB @ 238 and multiplier at 16.5...just cause its a black edition does not mean you can go crazy with the multiplier only....

That's a totally different chip that will be cooled with Liquid Nitrogen OR Liquid Helium...On air the 550 wont go past 4.0 - 4.1Ghz with 1.5v... I have not seen a stable 550 over 3.9Ghz even on WC setup.... The only quads that can reach those clocks are the 940 that fit 6.5GHZ and 45,000+ on 3Dmark (world record) and now the 955 that will surpass that mark.....

Yeah I see what you're talking about...I haven't tried playing around with the fsb to see how high I can get it and have it be stable...but will do...I want to see how high I can get...

Hi, :hello:

I tried X15.5, FSB 210 & CPU 1.4v not stable...Videl in the BIOS/ACC did u get a message blinking in red about "System Voltage not Optimized" when u changed the CPU Host Clock Control from AUTO to Manual ???

This a great read about unlocking cores & a long one with the below screen shot:

Here is a CPU-Z picture of a PII X2 550, with unlocked cores overclocked to 3.8GHz:

Well you have to take into consideration that we are using very different motherboards, i do not have an SB750 so i cannot unlock at the moment. you have an AMD chipset while I have an Nvidia chipset.

Btw did you prime95 @ 3.825GHz? I cannot achieve 3.8 just by raising the multiplier, as it crashes instantly. So I have to play around with the settting's till i get it stable.

And my board does not support DDR3 so that's another issue as well.....

Hi, :hello:

The highest Iv'e been is 3.5GHz and it was not stable it locked up.

I just stopped a Prime95 test at line 5 CPU 3.4GHz [x17.0] I did not change the FSB or CPU voltage...I shut it down when the Temp hit 69C, my problem is I have a stock CPU cooler. FYG in my game it only ran 44c...that stress test is tough.

You need to get a nice cooler...then put the multiplier to x17.5 and the voltage to 1.4v...don't mess with anything else like fsb for now, and it should run stable...at least it does for me at these settings...good luck

yep.....im off to bed guys... got work in 6 hours.... [:grahamlv:1]

Ok my friend got his 955 rig up and running...he benchmarked it (in 3DMark06) and the CPU score turned out to be 4421...@ stock speed, 3.2
My phenom II X4 B50 scores 4860 @ 3.2...wow...but then again, he was on vista and that could have affected his score

Wow, and that is comparing a 100.00$ chip against a 245.00$ chip....Nice.....

Hi, :hello:

I'm running @ 3.4GHz [x17 CPU 1.3V + 0.025v increase], Temp in my Game 43c to 45c and it is Stable in the game...I hate to test the stability with Prime95 the Heat kills me...so I will test for 2 lines or till it reaches 68c...then a 3D mark.

Hi, :hello:

Yes I read that, I was going to buy the 955, till the 550 was released, glad I did I saved $150.00 😀

I'm stable in Prime95, I ran it till 4th line at that point the Temp was 69c so I stopped the test, next I did a 3D Mark test, Temp in this test went as high as 57c not bad for a AMD Stock cooler.

I must say my Antec 900 case has great cooling with 5 fans running it keeps it cool inside. Also I have a WinXP Pro 32bit, should do better with Window7 64bit 😍 & I'm using a Mid range video card n9800GT, imagine the score with a powerhouse ATI VC 😱

I wonder if OCing is worth the heat for only 3MBs more speed, these are the results for 3 tests:

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.1 GHz, score 14,006 - CPU 4682 [Stock]

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.3 GHz, score 14,173 - CPU 5000

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.4 GHz, score 14,356 - CPU 5067

3DMark4Cores34GHzscore14356-CPU5067.jpg

Hmmmm do you think I should go ALL the way to 3.5GHZ ???

Not getting a good cooler is not an option for this CPU...not just this CPU, any CPU If you're overclocking...I'm getting my cooler next week...

Hi, :hello:

Multiplier 17.5 + Core voltage 1.350v = 3.5GHz and Stable unreal [note: I did not change the FSB] 😱

I ran Prime95 till the Temp was 68c, Stable...Played my Game WoW for 1 hour Max Temp 48c Stable...Video card MSI n9800GT OC, temp 48c...all with a Stock cooler 😍

3D Mark for all 4 CPU settings:

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.1 GHz, score 14,006 - CPU 4682

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.3 GHz, score 14,173 - CPU 5000

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.4 GHz, score 14,356 - CPU 5067

3D Mark: 4 Cores, @ 3.5 GHz score 14,456 - CPU 5226
