Phenomell or core i5 better?

Amd phenomell x4 955 BE and Core i5 2400.
Which one of the above processor is better for gaming with HD6850.
Will there be a large performance difference between them?
Both of them has 6Mb L3 cache, what is the difference?

Go with a i5 2500k.. The i5 overclocks big time and is a newer chip..

Core i5 2400 will provide better performance due to a better overall processor architecture...though, I agree with christop's recommendation of a Core i5 2500K....as they are insane overclockers compared to previous generation processors.

On the other hand, the 955 is dirt cheap now.

Yes, the 2400 is better. What's your overall budget, assuming this is a new rig? Otherwise, what are the other specs of your PC?

In price the 955 is close to the i3 2100 not the 2400
