My cpu fan was making a lot of noise so i decided to take the processer with fan and cooler out of the mainboard. But now when i have cleaned it from al the dust it looks like it is impossible to replace it back into te mainboard. The reason accourding to my is because the cooler is bigger then het socked so the lever which normally placing the cpu firmly in his socked cann't be moved during the placing of the processor.

Do anyone know how i can place the processor back, i'm quiet desperate. My system is a P4 1800 MHZ. By the way sorry for the bad english.

sounds like your cpu is pasted to your heatsink. I'm not sure how to tell yout to go about removing it, but when you put it back in, be sure to use some thermal grease between the cpu and heatsink. You will have to put the cpu in the socket independent of the heatsink, locke the cpu in place with the lever, and then put on your heatsink.

Yikes, how did you get it off without moving the lever if the HSF was in the way? I agree, sounds like it's epoxied on there. A little elbow grease (then a little thermal grease) should pop it right off. Epoxy isn't like superglue, it just holds the thing in place firmly, not permanently.

i will try to pop it of with some force, but cann't this break te processor or is the epoxy not that strong?

Hey there,

from what i've read, the general procedure for epoxied HSF removal is to run the CPU at full throttle to heat it up (maybe disconnect the fan for a bit), and then it comes off a lot easier. Anybody else heard of this? I know you can't exactly do this, but can you mimic this effect somehow? If so, I would recommend applying the heat to the HS - not the processor ;)

i've menaged to pop it of by using a lever between the processor and the heat sink (without heating the epoxy) and it looks like it works again.
