Please help. VIsta install crash = vicious loop

Very first build ... and just when I thought I was free and clear too. Vista Home premium (64) loaded to about 99%, then the screen went black and restarted ... now it's stuck telling me:

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected
error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click
"OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

When I do, it simply reboots to the same screen.

Make sure your ram voltages are high enough
\ try with one stick of ram

List your complete spec's and you will get better advice

What happens after you turn off the machine and restart? Is the boot order in the bios set to DVD 1st

Do you have more than 3GB installed? If yes, remove RAM for total below 3GB.

Trying with one stick now ...
The Ram voltages were set at auto and +.2 by the mobo
The boot order was 1st hard drive, 2nd cd/dvd

I'm pretty sure that's why I'm getting the repeating error .. but the weird (scary) thing is when I go back into bios - I'm unable to edit 80% of the fields I could before(?) Included in that is the boot order.

Temp? I had a Artic Freezer and it was a piece of crap had to revert back to stock cooler.

That link is for the 32 bit Vista version, he is using 64 bit which I am pretty sure has eliminated any problems with memory in excess of 3 gigs.

Just did a cmos jumper/reset on the mobo ... will retry that way.

Jumped the cmos, changed the boot order and voila! It finalized ... now to drop the other stick in and load up the new drivers.

justtom no version of vista will complete the install with 4 gig of ram. you have to install with 1 or two gig apply a patch from microsoft then add the rest of you ram. you can't even slipstream the patch and install with 4 gigs. should be fixed with sp 1. you can google vista error and 4 gig ram for more info

He's fine. He only have 2GB of RAM.
