[citation][nom]sticks435[/nom]Your kinda like the press, you don't really pay attention either. Kevin didn't say this, he was quoting the TIME review."The Rock's character goes around shooting everything in sight, the barrel of his gun sticking suggestively up from the bottom of the screen," TIME said[/citation]

Touché

I hope I'm not the only person who thinks "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" was one of the worst movies of all times. There were scenes in it that looked like the CGI wasn't even finished.

They really failed on the original DooM movie, it could have been a lot better, so here is hope that they will do better next time. Maybe that is what they are thinking too?

They should take notes from what James Cameron did with the movie "Aliens", to see how it should have been made. Stick to the Demons from hell original story angle this time too.

On another note, I wouldn't mind seeing a Starcraft movie, based on the original story of the game and what happens with Kerrigan.

Really? G.I.Joe was a success? I watched the movie and found it to be really terrible. It was tough just to sit through.

Let's hope this new Doom movie is worth watching. Doesn't need to be great, but watchable.

[citation][nom]tburns1[/nom]Hey ...I want a Deus Ex, System Shock, and Thief movie![/citation]

All rolled into one, directed by Uwe boll... *insert screams*

Really though, I was kinda lukewarm on the Doom movie. The 1st person shooter part only appeals to a narrow spectrum of the gaming crowd, I thought it a little bit cheesy, but.. its one of those Hit and miss points.

The movie could have been a lot lot more if they had a proper writer, good director, maybe avoided the cheese factor of the FPS scene, or snuck it in creatively (end of movie, special Helmet HUD prototype, etc. who knows). It might not have been hurt too much by using a different person for the sarge instead of Dwayne Johnson. 'Actors' like him tend to dominate and crowd out a story. It ends up being just a big wank fest for them. less a movie.

Use Doom 3 story line. Tighten it up time wise a bit. Would work alot better and be more true to the game

So because GI Joe was good, they're making another Doom movie? But GI Joe was far worse than Doom. It was laughably bad.

[citation][nom]hotsacoman[/nom]Yeah but see Uwe Boll made the Postal movie. How could you go wrong?[/citation]

I actually really like Postal. One of my favorite movies in the past few years. I actually met Uwe Boll at the international premier. He got up on stage and ranted for about 15 minutes. There were only a handful of other people in the audience. It was epic (and I was hammered at the time).

They should just forget this one, and now that DNF is finally coming out make that a movie instead.
I think Brock Lesnar could play Duke successfully too.

[citation][nom]dark_lord69[/nom]How about Quake instead?[/citation]
The content is certainly subject to censorship so it would end up awfully different than the game just like the aforementioned movie.

The really sad thing is that if they completely reboot it and make it based on the original "story" of Doom, it will still be horrible because all the studios are DEMANDING PG-13 ratings. PG-13 is a hugely detrimental rating for anything that is supposed to have any horror/sci-fi decency. It is a cop out and will ruin the modest hope that a good movie will come from the Doom franchise. I personally, would like to see an R rated movie based on the Quake franchise. It was a better storyline IMHO.

Ok lets make this really really dead simple (cookie for the reference) Read the text messages at the beginning and end of each episode of doom and doom2... that's all you need to know. They give you the plot and the location and the necessary info for a movie storyline.

In the second movie can we please see a cyber demon and/or a spider mastermind? The entire concept of the game should be kept in tact and as long as you allow Imps to throw fireballs, the cyber demon to fire rockets, and the lost souls all to fly out at you in 3d then they will have the necessary 3d gimmickry to make a hit.

The entire point is you HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE STORY AND THE CHARACTERS not just the characters... I think Uwe has missed the second half of that statement. Look at Street Fighter... chun li is NOT a reporter and E. Honda isnt Hawaiian but hey who cares about things like accuracy when were chasing millions right?

[citation][nom]mayankleoboy1[/nom]hmmmm how about a crysis movie?[/citation]
But will the moview be able to play crysis? Sorry ...had to go there ... :)

Another Doom movie could possibly work if done well. It could be a new beginning. Give it a chance I say.

A Quake Movie would also be good if done right. I mean, the story isn't really to hard. Probably adapt Quake 2 into a movie, and if succesful move to Quake 4, and then make a prequel called Quake Wars. You got the Quake Movie trilogy! Three movies killing alien Strogg!

For a Wolf3D movie, I think a script or something is in development for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. RtCW and the 2009 WOlfenstein could translate well into movies if the creators stay true enough to the games.

I just finished watching _Doom_ (2005) on Netflix and I think it got a bad rap. I mean, it's nothing like the crapfest which was, for example, Uwe Boll's _FarCry_ (admittedly, I didn't even like the game, barely got past the first bit before I was bored), which was horrible acting, horrible lines, horrible cinematography - just horrible all the way around.

In comparison, I think if _Aliens_ had never been made, I think this movie would have done quite well: as it is, it'll always be compared to similar movies which came before it, but I enjoyed _Doom_ in part because I came to like the characters. It made you care a little that they actually died.

That being said, I wish they'd stuck to the original plot of the game, as the virus/DNA-altering zombie/monster thing has been done to death (and done better in the _Resident Evil_ series), and I had hoped to see truly bizarre, sickeningly grotesque alien beings from my worst nightmares - the kind that would and could reside in Hell, if 'Hell' were an alternate dimension where 'evil' incarnate resides. As well, with an entire squad available, it wasn't nearly as scary as the game, where you had to go into those freakin' scary research buildings solo.

But I've come to really love Karl Urban (an awesome 'Bones' McCoy in _Star Trek_ (2009)) as an action hero, and certainly enjoyed his turn here, as well as the lovely Rosamund Pike playing his sister. I'm disappointed to hear that they're rebooting the franchise rather than continue on with the Grimm siblings, because that would have been worth watching.

I don't know why the critics loved the 'FPS' part so much: I personally hated it, it was really cheesy. After taking great pains (and lots of money) to make everything else _not_ seem hokey (despite the fact that the original iD software game is, in fact, quite cheesy), to throw that in there really took me out of my suspension of disbelief. I also didn't feel that making *spoiler* The Rock into a villain to put a twist in was worth it, and suddenly turned him into a cartoon one-dimensional soldier character, which seemed at odds with all the character development earlier in the film, where he shows compassion for Sgt. 'Reaper' Grimm. It would have been better for him to have died nobly, saving his team members, instead of putting a bullet in The Kid's head, which I thought was totally out-of-character.

Hopefully the new Doom movie will rectify things and we'll get something actually really scary, with actual aliens/monsters from Hell. Barring that, I'd love to see a movie based on _Dead Space_, or indeed, set in the _Marathon_ universe. I'm still sore that the _Halo_ movie never got made. 🙁 A _StarCraft_ movie would rock too.

Anyway, overall, I enjoyed the _Doom_ movie, and while there are some things I would have changed, I certainly didn't feel it was a waste of my precious time on this Earth to watch it. _FarCry_ on the other hand, trust me, you'll be doing yourself a favour by skipping it. Uwe Boll is the Ed Wood of video game movies, apparently (although I might still check out _Postal_... well, because it's _Postal_, damnit, he can't have screwed that up!).

/p.s. I liked the G.I. Joe film, so if you hated that, you might hate my taste in movies ;P

The next movie could be REALLY good if it's done right. I don't know if it's possible considering Universal owns the rights. Think of how well the Watchmen, Sin City, and Dredd resembled their comics and apply that to a new Doom movie using the classic games as their influence
