Hi

Ill try t be berife .. Im running windows 10.. and i downlaoded a couple files... and after placing one of them on my desktop.. things started getting very weird.. i was not able to install or launch anything including task manager and everytime getting error message ".... ... the specific path does not exist""...

I ran a scan on windows and found 3-4 low risk items.. so chose to remove them and restarted the PC.. went back to windows security and they are still there... I wanted to choose the offline scan .. but the PC wont start.. I started panicing and unplugged my internet connection

I went into safe mode and installed malwarebytes and did a scan and detected 26 PUPoptional... I quarantined all of them .. I tried to install Bit defender in safe mode.. it was not able to.. so went back into windows to install to scan for virus.. still cant install or load anything and it takes ages bfore getting teh sam message about the path does not exist...

Not sure wht to do next..

Make an image to USB from Microsoft of your OS from a known uninfected source. If you have any other drives aside from OS, disconnect them. Boot directly from the USB, delete all partitions on the OS drive. Allow the installer to create your partitions and so forth on a clean install.

As to storage drives, if they exist, they could be infected as well. Hooking them back up could propagate the virus again. You could try something like an external dock and scan them but there are dangers involved.
Consider that any PC that was on the LAN with shared drives or folders could also be infected according to the virus.

This is where you recover from the full system backup you made before this happened.

Lacking that, a full wipe and reinstall.
OS drive and all the others.

Most folks these days have backup files from backup utility companies. You did make backups, correct?
Worst case scenario is you will need to do a fresh windows10 installation. Files-be-gone and start all over again.

The PC #2 and laptop require passwords to access them form that computer.. so i I think they should be OK ...

Nonethless can you recommend an anti virus so i can cnduct a scan on NAS and the other computers..

To really do what you want right, you need to do the following.

1. Get a friends computer you know has no viruses or malware on it.

2. Log in, and search on google for 'Virus Rescue CD'

3. Pick one you trust out of the list, and burn it onto either a CD-R of DVD-R disk on your friends computer. Make sure you finalize the disk so your infected machine cannot infect the CD.

4. Go back home with rescue CD in tow. Now, get into the bios on your computer, and set the BIOS to boot from the CD.

5. Put CD in drive, reboot computer, run antivirus program and chill. If it finds anything, instruct it to delete the file.

6. Once it's finished, reboot your now disinfected computer and pray nothing critical was infected.

Personally, I wouldn't trust this system, no matter what any AV tool reports.

Full wipe and reinstall.

Or in my case, recovery from a full system backup from before this happened.

AV is great. But not foolproof.

Dude, I can't even guarantee it's going to boot after that. If the wrong file got infected and deleted, you're going to need those backups anyhow.
