I am putting together a new system from scratch in about a week as soon as i get my parts for 2,700 US$'s ) my current system specs are, athlon 1333 mhz t-bird, msi kt4v, 384mb 2100 ddr ram , 20 gb hd , sb live , radeon 9100 pro 128mb.

-- Now here is the semi-final list of what im hoping to get for my new system along with a few questions in between.--

1. Athlon XP 2800 Barton CPU oem [192.15] *open to suggestions*

Total cost with overnight shipping and handling comes out to be: $2582.40 u.s dollars

I'd like some reviews on the above parts

What do you all think? im open to as many suggestions so please feel to criticize
 
I'd say don't get the overnight shipping on anything, if you do ground or regular fed ex you'll save a couple hundred on shipping charges, also if you want your hd to be really fast, OfficeMax has the Western Digital 120GB 8MB Cache HD for $50 after $70 rebates. http://slickdeals.net/#p3448
and then set up a raid 0 array and you'll get a nice boost in proformance over sata and double your space.
the only other thing is the new arctic silver ceramique is supposed to outproform the arctic silver III, otherwise all I have to say is *drool*
(and if you're spending that kind of $$$, go intel, get a 2.6c and oc it to 3.2)
 
1. Dude for a high end system like that you should definetly go with an Intel P4C processor, either the 2.6C or 2.8C.

2. I'd be cautious with the OEM vid card since they don't carry the same amount of warranty as the retail versions, so if something on the board goes out in the future then it's in your hands. Double check ATI's OEM warranty.

3. I have the same Seagate HD you have listed except the 80GB version. You're gonna love it, it is a good performer and very quiet.
 
go get a dvd writer... forget about cd writer and dvd-rom .. and if u want to watch dvd's .. get a regular dvd player and bose speakers ... which will cost u a bit more than $2000 and get a good plasma tv for 7000-9000$ ... dont worry the total wont be more than 12.000 - 15.000$ :) at least u will enjoy what u are doing .. oh and forget about athlon if u will really spend that much money on computer... go get a good P4 with H T ... hmmm what else.. oh and get a good sound card.. i hope u are not planing to use the onboard sound card.. go get a good creative audigy 2 platinum.. and try getting a 21" LCD forget about stupid CRT's u will need a dinner table for a monitor like that .. if u can find a bigger thing that 21" LCD thats even better... and forget that stupid mainboard.. get something with 850 chipset.. and get ur self some RD-ram instead of ddr... and get a color laser printer... really u will love it .. there are some cheap HP color printers for 5000$ or so ... well hmmm ... the system u typed looks good for begginers.. anyhow.. u might like to get a microsoft bluetooth keyboard instead of that cheap logitech keyboard.. and get a 256mb graphics card if u want to use it next year too.. and try to find better brands instead of linksys stuff.. like original intel...
and if u decide to get P4 with H T... for a fast system like that u should get another hard drive.. u should get scsi hd. maybe 2 180Gb would be good... at least they should be 10.000 or 15.000 rpm.. not soooooo slow like 7200 ... btw .. can i ask what u will do with 1.44 floppy ???? who uses that anymore??? get urself a card reader.. and get a few 1gb media cards.. they are only a few hundreds now... or if you enjoy trying new stuff u can get a matrox parhellia .. and buy three 20" LCD monitors.. and play games like that that would be fun for u .. what i wrote above wouldnt cost too much ... anyway .. :) if u want to get the best u need to pay for it right ??? ..
 
i still use floppies...how do you flash your bios without em?

i dont know its just annoying to see ppl listing their stuff like this ... and asking for others approval ... like they dont know the system they are talking about it good or not.. he knows thats a good system :)) who needs to know .. i am still using my PIII's and celerons :)) anyway ...

u know what i have a pIII 650 (slot) on a asus P3B-f mainboard runing at 910mhz .. with 512mb ram.. its way faster than celeron 2.0ghz with 512 ddr.. at least office performance is way better...
 
lucky bastard...your pIII 650 clocks further than my 700...you are right though...many people undervalue the performance of pIII's

oh well the wonderfull thing about my PIII is, its a 100mhz fsb pIII.. so its multip. was 6.5x they all had amazing overclocking capability (i mean the 100mhz FSB ones).. i looked for a 850mhz 100mhz PIII for such a long time but i couldnt find. would run at 1,2ghz if i could find one .. (depends on the quality of the cpu though, no 2 intel cpus are alike comparing quality)... anyway .. i love my PIII's and celerons .. :)) and even my PII 300 (66mhz fsb one) runing at 100 mhz fsb 450mhz.. :)) anyway everything i have is overclocked.. :) (btw i am so mad at about this overnet thing right now ... last 90mb of the movie and it stopped downloading x-( ... )
 
also the tualatin celerons were basically pIII's beging to be overclocked...

yeah thats what i've learned from intel.. stay away from the last products.. or u will get the overclocked version of the previous product :)) though the 256kb celerons was a good thing... 128kb sucks..
 
Cancel that WD 120GB HD from Office Max Deal ($50 after all rebates) - called and it is not available on-line. Only in store and the $30 on-line order discount will not apply.

System looks good to me, but I'd make the following suggestions:
1) Spending that much money and all I'd say that you're better off getting a P4 2.6C than an AXP2800. Unless you have a specific reason for sticking with AMD...
2) The AS Ceramique is better than the ASIII.

you're right, they pulled it after a few days, must have been selling too many, you should still be able to get the same hd (maxtor) from oficedepot for $60 w/free shipping, still a killer deal
