We have 12 NT 4.0 Workstation PC's here at my job. What I'd like to do is
set each one of them to automaticaly log off after an hour of inactivity.

Is there anyway I can set this up to happen automaticaly, regardless of who
uses the machine?

Thanks

Hi Courtney,

Probably the easiest method of accomplishing what you seek would be to use the
'WinExit' screen saver available in the resource kit.

To quote from the winexit.hlp file:

"WinExit is a screen saver that logs the current user off after the specified
time has elapsed. It's similar to all other screen savers in that it can be
configured through the Control Panel by selecting Desktop. Set the Delay value
to a desired time to activate the screen saver. When the Delay time elapses
WinExit displays a dialog box (see below) in which it displays the countdown
timer and a user defined message. When the countdown timer reaches zero the
logoff process will be initiated. During the countdown timer you can abort the
process anytime by either moving the mouse over the dialog box or pressing any
key on the keyboard."

Hope this info helps.

Calvin.

I have tested WinExit, and it seems to only work on a PER USER level, not for
all users of the machine. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks

Sorry it wasn't what you wanted - was worth a shot 🙂

HI

It would appear that the software can be set to start from a registry
enrty (available through the sofware menu). I haven't actually tried
this yet but as I have a few rouge users that simply refuse to log out
I am interested in finding a solution to this too. Regards.

it is per user, but you can put it in place for any future user by
changing the registry for the Default User (not .default!) correctly
(which is what I'm looking up how to do now...)

You can try using ScreenPass (http://screenpass.net)

ScreenPass automatically Logout idle workstation after administrator
defined idle period has exceeded.

Works under XP and Vista.
