Question POST ok, no BIOS screen, black screen flashing cursor

Hello all,

I have tried everything I could think of, maybe some of you have an idea before I go buy a new motherboard + CPU for my system which I use to run TrueNAS.
I simply cannot enter the BIOS, but POST seems to be completed successfully.

Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-ZZ97P-D3 (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z97P-D3-rev-10#ov)
CPU: Intel Xeon Processor E3-1230 v3 (https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...1230-v3-8m-cache-3-30-ghz/specifications.html)
GPU: HD4350 PCI-E (R71BLD) DDR2 512 Mb DVI AX4350
RAM:
1x 8GB DDR3-1600MHz (M2F8G64CB8HC5N-DI Elixir 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz) CL 11​
3x 8GB DDR3-1600MHz (Mushkin Enhanced Stealth 8gb Ddr3 1600 Pc3 12800 RAM 997069S) CL 9​
PCIe-SATA-Controller: Marvell 88SE92xx
PSU: Fractal Design Ion+ 560W Platinum (https://www.fractal-design.com/products/power-supplies/ion/ion-platinum-560w/black/)

Symptoms:
When pressing the power button, the fans spin. Then the following happens:
The CPU fan stops spinning and restarts. While the CPU fan restarts, the HDD LED is shortly off.
Motherboard speaker beeps once short, indicating POST is done.
A flashing cursor appears, disappears for a few seconds and reappears and stays flashing.
That's it.

The keyboard numpad and capslock LEDs do not react to anything.
The HDD LED is flashing sometimes, but is mainly on.
The green Ethernet-LED is on all the time. The yellow Ethernet-LED is blinking every few seconds.
My router (PC is directly connected) does not show any connection to the PC on the browser management site of the router.
If the power button is pressed short, the PC turns off (during Windows or TrueNAS a long press was required)
No BIOS logo is visible. I spammed DEL (and also tried some other F-keys and ESC) on startup, but was not able to enter anything.

Sometimes at startup I catch a glimpse at the boot-output of the additional SATA controller which I installed:

This screen disappears after a few seconds. I can pause the screen with the pause/break key on the keyboard.
After I press another button, the screen goes away and the blinking cursor appears again.
The keyboard numpad LED does react while the SATA controller screen is visible.

I had the same problem once in the past.
I got it to boot again by swapping the CMOS battery. (The PC was a long time without power, so assumed the battery may be dead)
I assume the removal of the CMOS battery was resetting the BIOS and this helped.
This fix does not work anymore.
All tried CMOS batteries show 3.1-3.2 V

I have already tried:
Resetting BIOS (by unplugging CMOS battery or jumping CLR_CMOS while battery inserted)
Unplugging everything not needed (SATA SSDs+HDDs, PCIe-SATA-Controller)
Switching PSU to the PSU from my main PC
Switching GPU to Radeon R9 380X. Not even the "No power"-message is shown if I do not connect the PCIe-power cables from the PSU
Only using one of the RAM sticks (tried one of each)
When trying to start without RAM or GPU the motherboard speaker outputs the correct error beeping patterns
Waiting for 1-2 hours

Does anyone have an idea what I can test for additionally before buying a new motherboard + CPU?
I have not changed any hardware, the system did simply not boot up one day.
Any help is welcome.

I have one possible fix.

What KB are you using? USB or PS/2?

If USB, get your hands on PS/2 KB, plug the round connector to purple round port and start smashing Del, once you power on the build.
It should bring you to BIOS.

But if you're already using PS/2 KB then i'd look towards new MoBo. Or better yet, new CPU-MoBo-RAM combo.
 
I have dug up a PS/2 keyboard, but had no success trying to get in the BIOS with that.
If even PS/2 KB doesn't work, then there must be some serious fault with MoBo.

Since PS/2 signals will interrupt any other signal CPU gets, thus CPU has to deal with PS/2 inputs.
Compared to USB, where packages are sent and then wait in line for CPU to do other tasks until it is ready to deal with USB inputs.
