Spent some time overclocking my graphics card, now back to the processor..
Changed some things since last and got huge improvements on both 3dbenchmark and pcwiz07's benchmark, compared to E6600 @ 2400Mhz it smoked it in all areas, Dryhstone went off the chart
followed directions in C2D overclocking guide disabled this that n the other,
set pcie freq, but the key was ctrl+F1 before MIT bios, set timing to 4-4-4-12, still no voltage changes... Seems setting mem timings makes a difference even tho you dont have to in order to overclock

Hmmmmm. I have the same setup including the ram. My ram is running at 5-5-5-15. Did you get a big difference from running the ram at 4-4-4-12 vs stock timings by spd? Everything else being equal of course. Ah screw it, I'll do it just for fun....reboot time.

Well I saw no appreciable increase in performance by switching from 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12. Everything ran just fine perfectly stable...but benchmarks from 3dmark06 and x3 benchmark show less than 1.7% increase in performance for those. Granted those are GPU based/limiting...But...since it is stable. I'll keep it there.
You just have to love Kingston ram. Never had a single problem with it ever and always performed better than advertised. I'll prolly benefit more by getting that second stick of 1gig.

dont know about the 5-5-5-15 or 4-4-4-12, i was still at the stock settings, not sure what they were, but it wasnt equal...
i noticed on cpuz that i was 5-3-?-15 and figured id try setting the 4-4-4-12 and got the performance change so i just figured id give a heads up, either way the setup is pretty sweet

Looks like a great option to me.
Just for the sakes of this post. I can do 3.2ghz 1.35v on my E6300. My motherboard is the limit for the chip so far.
I have a new board coming in the mail (I shorted it out oops) and I will go for round 2 8)
The 4300 looks like a champ and I would be fine with both.

the setup with the E4300 seems pretty nice to me, im not the guru of overclocking, and ive always been leery of it cause of all the voltage increases, with this i havent changed any voltages to hit 3.0, and its staying nice n cool.... I cant afford to dump another 500 into a puter so safe is good 4 me.........

Oilpatch, I've taken the liberty of re-formatting the information you've provided.
I've highlighted in bold the problem items. Easytune and SpeedFan are correct, however, remember that TAT reads ~ 2c low. In order to conduct valid tests to obtain valid results, the variables must be defined, such as:
Ambient = ?????
C1E and EIST = disabled
Frequency and Vcore = manual.
CPU and Case fans = manual 100%
Vcore = ?????
Please re-read the Temp Guide, as it's a new edit effective earlier today.
System Temp is motherboard temp, which typically doesn't scale much, and is of minor concern.
Core Temp's "Tjunction 85c" field is Intel's Tj max spec, is info only, and doesn't change. Core #0 and Core #1 are your actual core temps as those in TAT.
Since E4300's and 965's are a combination notorious for introducing temperature offsets, Core Temp is obviously offset by -15c. If you simply add 15c to Core Temp, then you have accurate values, which should typically be ~ 2c higher than TAT. As you can see, Core Temp is still accurate with a +15c correction factor.
Follow wusy's C2D OC Guide to the letter to get your highest OC per lowest Vcore. Be patient and methodical, as it takes many hours to fine tune a new rig.
Your presumtion is sound, however, I wouldn't expect Vista to yet be as stable as XP. You may need to run a conservative OC until you complete your install, then re-tune for peak performance.
I do not recommend 60c Tcase in the Guide, as this temp is already "Hot", with a corresponding Tjunction value of 75c, and is too high for stability on an OC'd system. What I do recommend is that you do not exceed ~55c Tcase and ~70c Tjunction, which are both "Warm" and in the yellow range of the temp scale.

ox1574 = I installed the Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro with the grease that came on it, I'll have to compare my results with others to see if I'm off the curve, and have poor coupling, I thought I was OK.
CompTronix, some more data:
Ambient Was = 23C (73F), but I'm in Houston, Texas, so in summer when AC's are working hard, house will be warmer and library with two PC's is normally warmer still at around 27C (80F).
Vcore Was = 1.392v (same reading in CPU-Z & SpeedFan
CIE & EIST = I think were enabled, not sure.
Will spend time later today doing fine tuning as per wusy's guide, I understand that goal is to manually get lowest Vcore to minimize CPU heat generation to enable highest reasonable OC using your temp guide, assuming rest of system stable. Will post results.

According to your specs. you should be able to get an OC of 2.997 easily with
your ram. (333X9) I would guess you tried to get a very high FSB which would
pushed your ram too far since its 667 CL5.
I would guess that it is your CPU vcore, but the strange thing is I have my
E4300 at 2.4GHZ (300X8) at about 1.25 vcore.

On my previous post on this thread I got up to 3240 MHz with TAT on Max on simple default Auto settings before temp got too high. Idea this time around was to do it without Auto System Voltage to try and get lower Vcore and thus lower heat generation and thus higher OC before hit max temp.
I left the multiplyer at 9, so FSB was just ratio of CPU, ie FSB was 250 with CPU at 2250 when shut down.
So I don't know why it shut down and wouldn't reboot . . . .

I left the multiplyer at 9, so FSB was just ratio of CPU, ie FSB was 250 with CPU at 2250 when shut down.
So I don't know why it shut down and wouldn't reboot . . . .
This will not set any records on speed, but may set record on cost.
FSB 292, 2.63 mhz, stock cooling and voltage.
e4300 retail, ECS PM800 V2, Antec 500 true power, 1gb of DDR1 8-4-4-3, 2 160 gb sata1 hd in raid 0, 2 200 gb IDE drives, 2dvdrw, ATI 700 Pro AGP.
I had an old system with an nforce 2 motherboard and a barton 2600. Just exchanged the motherboard and processor out. Did a BSEL to VSS mod on the chip to make it a native 266 fsb. then uped it to 292, as the MB has no locks on PCI/AGP. The cup/mb was from frys for 158. The modding required a defogger repair Kit from pepboys for 10.50. Total cost with tax 185.

Insania , it's important to define which set of C2D temperatures you're posting at what variables. The following is an example of "Results" and "Variables" which is the format used in the Core 2 Duo Temperature Guide:
Results
Tcase (BIOS, Motherboard Utilities, SpeedFan) = 30c Idle, 50c Load
Tjunction (Core Temp offsets of 3c are normal) = 45c Idle, 65c Load
Variables
Ambient = 22c
Chipset = 975X
C2D = E6600
CPU Cooler= AC Freezer 7 Pro
Frequency = 3.6 Ghz
Load = TAT @ 100% 10 minutes
Motherboard = Asus P5W DH
Vcore = 1.4625
A standardized format provides the necessary information, and helps to level the thermal playing field, so that "apples" can be accurately compared to other "apples".

3240GHz @ 24/7 on Freezer 7 Pro air cooler 😀
Orthos stable for 1h then manually stopped. Don't want to push my motherboard more than that, it gets really hot to the touch. I got a Asus P5E-Plus with stock passive coolers, how high temps can the northbridge handle?

stroszek, Taco is right. I hate to pop your bubble, but your load temp is "hot". Check out the following "Sticky" for information on appropriate temperatures:

labortius, at 1.48 Vcore with an Orthos load, it's not likely that stroszek's temp is safe. Please read the following Sticky for information regarding appropriate temperatures:

Not at all. labortius's temp of 60c refered to the single CPU Case temp sensor, which runs 15c cooler than the dual CPU Junction temp sensors, which are measured at the hottest areas within each core. So, Tcase + 15c = Tjunction.

The temps on e4300 are quite confusing, here are some more detailed results on 1.48v and 9x360 @ 3240GHz. My case is an Antec P180B with two 120mm fans very close to the CPU heatsink so the airflow shouldn't be an issue.
Orthos 100% Load
Core Temp Idle:
#Core1: ~25c
#Core2: ~30c
Core Temp Load:
#Core1: ~59c
#Core2: ~59c
So according to the Temperature Guide Core Temp allows 65c before it is considered as hot and Im in the safe zone?

#Core2: ~40c
TAT Load:
#Core1: ~70c
#Core2: ~70c
The strange thing is that when i use an advanced temp reader and put the sensor on the fan heatsink that is directly above the cpu core I only get a reading of ~31c during full load and the fan is still quite cool when I touch it.
Anyhow; Im not extremely careful of this cpu anyway since they are so cheap ^^
