Question Power Limit Throttling

Hi,

Below are my system specs

MOTHERBOARD (Chipset - Z370) = Asus TUF Z370 PRO gaming
CPU(Socket - LGA 1151) = i7 8700
GPU = ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Twin Fan
RAM = Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR 4
SSD = Samsung 750 evo 120GB
HDD = Seagate Barracuda(Green) ST1000DM010-2EP102 1TB
PSU = Corsair RM1000x
CASE = Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 RGB
COOLER = Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML120L (RGB1.0)


While running a CPU stress test on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility the 'Power Limit Throttling' gets activated. Is there any way to disable it? Is it normal or is this a problem??

You don't want to disable it. The question is why is it activating. I'm not sure if a 61C package temp is to high. That's ok for a core temp. But I don't see your Core temp listed anywhere. You might need something more than a 120MM cooler for the 8700K.

It’s a non k CPU

You still need a better cooler. From what I've read any of the bigger 8 series CPUs need a 240MM Rad. 120MM sounds like it's just too small.

A 120mm isn’t good, air is better in most cases. I’d recommend like above a 240 or a good heatsink.

Ok I will get a bigger cooler. But what about the power limit throttling? Will getting a bigger cooler disable the throttling??

It should. It can throttle for a couple of reasons. Heat is the easy one. It gets to hot so it cuts the clock speed. CPU runs slower, so it's able to cut the voltage some, so it runs cooler. It's technically possible it's running low on voltage which would do the same thing, but that usually causes system instability and reboots.
