Hey All,

Just built my friend a new PC and for the first time, I'm running into a power issue. I am able to to flip the switch on the PSU and there seems to be power on the MOBO for a split second prior to shutting off. I have taken out every part (tried after each part removed) minus the MOBO, CPU, and PSU with the same result. Power seems to go to the MOBO for a second and then turn off. The power button does not work at any point. Any ideas? I was thinking it might be a bad PSU or MOBO.

Solution
Hi Spriggs :)

Are any of your status LEDs lit on the MB? They are CPU, DRAM, VGA, and Boot. If any are lit then post will not advance till rectified.
Double check all cabling and connections.
If still no go then next is PSU. You will have to swap it out with a known working unit of same or higher Wattage.
If the PSU proves good then test the MB outside the case (benchtest in case of MB standoffs shorting)
If then the problem persists, RMA the MB.

The only light that comes up is one of the RGB heatsinks. It flashes for a moment and shuts off.
