Hey,

I'm using a Scythe Kaze Q with 4x Gently Typhoons for a DIY project. I need to power it without the help of a computer PSU. My plan is to connect it straight to the wall.

The fan controller is powered via a standard 4pin molex plug, which, according to wikipeadia, is 12 Volt. Does this mean that if I find a 12 volt charger / power supply for a phone / router / random electronic device; I can connect this to a male 4pin molex, and plug it straight into the fan controller?

If so, how essential is using solder (wondering if it's worth buying a soldering iron)? can I get away with twisting the wires together under some heatshrink (they will not be moved or tugged much after installation)?

Thanks in advance

You would want something that can deliver 12v DC at about 1.5Amps or more to be safe. Soldering is the best option but you might get away with twisted wire and heat shrink. The devices you listed usually don't use 12v, I'd look at hobby shops, 12v is very common for powering little motors, lighting and other random things.

Thanks :) Trying to verify that it uses 15v and not 12v, where did you find that bit of information?

I tried using a 12V -- 1A powersupply that came with a modem I had lying around. Works great! The Typhoon's are quite low current (0.08A), so 1A seems to be plenty of juice for the fans and their controller
