powers up but no beep or display

I just put a new-ish computer together and it lights up the HDD spins up the fans work and its all happy for a second or two but that's all that happens theres no beeps and nothing sows up on the monitor I have no idea whats wrong

Have you plugged the power supply to the motherboard in two different places? There should be one broad and flat plug, and a smaller plug near the CPU.

yes theyre both plugged in and ive tried disconnecting the fans and drives too but still nothing
