I also meant it more generally. I buy a lot of things as an early adopter (I'm an incorrigible tech enthusiast) and they always have nagging problems, some fixed, some never.

Games though - good god, with what we've seen lately, who would be foolish enough? You're basically subsidizing the costly patch with the premiums you'll pay to preorder!

Pre order culture is a cancer on the industry, encouraging publishers to strip money away from development and apply it to marketing because people pre order based on marketing, not development. If you love games and want better games, wait until after launch.

Pre order culture is a cancer on the videogame industry. It pushes developers to strip money from development and apply it to marketing because better marketing increases pre orders, not a better game or more development. If you love games and want better games, wait until after launch to buy a game, don't pre order it.

Steam have it on pre-sale, in the UK it's £39.99 and come with a free copy of GTA San Andreas which is going for £9.99 plus the in-game credit.
Although I used to have GTA:SA on disk years ago I don't anymore and a Steam version would be nice to have. It's a good deal for me.

The only scenario I will pre-order from Rockstar is... Pre-order GTA 5 PC now and get RED DEAD REDEMPTION for PC for free. But since they never f**king bother to port this game to PC so forget it.

Giving virtual $$ from pre-order is just cheating for me...

The only pre-orders I bother with anymore are the packages where I actually get something tangible: art book, soundtrack, behind-the-scenes DVD, maybe even a figurine if I really like the series.
