Prime95 torture test questions

i am using prime95 to stress test my i7-2600 processor. I used the torture test on all 3 different modes. example, blend mode, small FFT mode and the large FFT mode. however, all 3 times i torture test it, my cpu's speed only gets turbo boosted to 3.5ghz instead of the max of 3.8ghz.

But, when i click the benchmark test on the prime95 software, my cpu's speed get turbo boosted to 3.8ghz (the max my cpu can reach with turbo boost).

why is it that my cpu did not turbo boost to 3.8ghz when it was being tortured tested but it rose to 3.8ghz when it was being benchmarked?

what is the difference between torture testing and benchmarking my cpu?

when i torture test my cpu, are all 4 cores being stressed?

When you torture test, you use all 4 cores.

When you benchmark and go into turbo boost, The CPU deactivates some of its cores to stay within voltage and power limits.

so are you saying that the i7-2600 is not able to boost all 4 cores to 3.8ghz??

This is how turbo works, when 1 core is active it will go to 3.8ghz, 2=3.7, 3=3.6, 4=3.5.

The non-k can overclock 400mhz on an OC capable mobo but you will still be using turbo to get to higher clocks. To "OC" it just go into bios, raise the multiplier the highest it will go, save and exit. You'll want to check temps and voltage while you stability test. You can try to turn off turbo but I'm pretty sure the OC won't stay.

if im not wrong the highest multiplier for my non k version is 38. so if i go into the bios and raise it to 38, with turbo boost enabled, i will be able to run all 4 cores at max turbo of 3.8ghz?

No stock is 38 and is the max the turbo will go. Your max will be 42, but turbo on all cores will be 3.8.

Can you even manually set your vcore? BTW what cpu cooler do you have?

i am honestly quite confuse right now. because from what i see now, my frequency will only hit 3.5ghz on all 4 cores. the thing is that i want to hit 3.8ghz on all 4 cores. how can i go abt doing that??

yes i can manually change my vcore.. i use a stock cooler from deller and i am from singapore

but mine is an i7-2600, where the multiplier is locked, not the unlocked k version. i can't increase my multiplier. but can i increase my turbo ratio?

Locked doesn't mean you can't change it. It's locked to a maximum, which is 42 for that cpu.

42 only if 1 core is being turbo boosted right? it cant possibly hit 42 on all 4 cores since its capped at 38.
so can the turbo boost ratio be set to 38 for all 4 cores?
