i had 2 computers networked 1 with xp pro and 1 with xp home. The xp pro
box has just blowin its
motherboard. So ive takin the hard drive from the xp pro box an set it
as slave on my xp home box. i can access all the files on the slave
drive accept my main account. It was an administrator account and had a
folder on the desktop with about 10 gig files that i wish to somehow
salvage. the slave drive will not boot even when set as master and the
other hdd diconnected.

every time i try to access the folder D:\Documents and Settings\******
it says access denied. however i can access it through a bootable
knoppix cd i have.

Is there anyway to recover this information other than burning it
through linux as its going to take ages.

Cheers ,krazed 😕

Have you tried to "take ownership" over the hard drive? or folders on it?
If not, i would begin there.

As an administrator on your local computer you can select properties on a
folder, then security, then advanced and the owner tab and select to take
ownership over all files and folders.

That should work--- :)
