I have a Gigabyte 8IK1100 (Rev. 2.0) mobo with the factory installed BIOS version FF. I updated to the latest version, FI, and when my system rebooted i got an error message that read "error loading operating system". I then used Q-Flash to restore the FF BIOS and then disabled hyper-threading and tried again. Same problem. I then tried the previous BIOS updates (FG, FH) and again, same problem. The original BIOS (FF) is the only version that works. What's the deal?

On a side note, why is it that both Q-Flash and DualBIOS only allow you to update/restore BIOS from a floppy drive? I don't even have a floppy, I had to take one out of my old PC and rig it up to this one, which was a pain in the ass. It seems kinda odd that it only lets you use a floppy drive considering the fact that floppy drives are pretty much obsolete nowadays.

P4 2.8GHz CPU
Gigabyte Radeon 9200SE video card
Windows XP Pro SP2

Stranger still, if you use a 3rd party RAID controller you'll probably need a floppy to install Windows!

You can make a CD bootable and do a BIOS update from it. You can also put the BIOS file (the BIOS ROM and flash utility) in an easy-to-find place on the hard drive and access it from a command prompt...how you boot to a command prompt is your problem!

See if this article on <A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/default.asp?url=/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/boot_no_windows.asp" target="_new"> starting your computer at a command prompt </A> helps. Its for win xp home, but it may work.
