Problem with my mouse

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (More info?)

I tried to change the mouse pointer, but when I clicked on the 'pointers' tab
in control panel, I got an error message that read
"C:/windows/system32/windows default file is missing or corrupt" I
tried to click ok, but the window won't close. What can I do?

Insert the XP CD. Go to start | run. Type in "sfc /scannow" withouth
the quotes. Notice the space after sfc but not after the /. Then hit
enter. Let it run. It will not give you much information when it runs.
After it's finished see if that helps.

What are you talking about? Some OEMs did come with an installation CD
- my Gateway for one. Why are you replying to a post that over two
months old, btw?

NOT TRUE! Some OEMs do provide a OEM XP Install CD and not the dreaded
Recovery CD.

That is what Rock said or meant. The OP believed probably that he needed the XP Retail CD or the Recovery CD .

Apart from that the OP is answering after a couple of months . That is why I could not find the original thread
