Hello!

I recently purchased the before mentioned PSU (Seasonic X850 Gold) and noticed somthing a bit odd.

I had used an X750 Gold in the past and upon pressing the power button on my case the PSU/motherboard would power on almost instantly.

However, when using my Seasonic X850 Gold the computer will power on roughly one or two full seonds after I press the case power/motherboard power button.

The MOBO LEDs go from red to yellow once the power button has been pushed and from yellow to green once the PSU/MOBO has properly initiated.

The PSU seems to be operational, but im not sure if this is common among "higher wattage" PSUs.

My specs are as follows:

Gigabyte p67a UD7 B3
Intel i7 2600K
EVGA 480 GTX Superclock
Kingston HyperX Grey Edition 12GB
Seasonic X850 Gold

Solution
Nothing to worry about! There might be a slight built-in delay to ensure that all the electronic components in the PSU are 'ready' to deliver the rated output. This is normal, and good design!

I see, I suppose that I had never owned a PSU that does that until now.

Thank you very much!

Thank you!

These features are in the better designed (high end) products, and are not limited to computer parts. The electronics in the part allow for a controlled 'ramp up' rather than a sudden ON. Then the power is delivered to the motherboard and other components. That 'ramp up' is what you are seeing.

I suppose that does make quite a bit of sense.

Thanks again!

Hi,

I think we have a similar problem. I have the same PSU, and my mobo is gigabyte z77 ud3h. at first for almost 6 months, my PC will ON instantly after pressing the POWER button on my case and almost 6 months, it failed. it will not power ON instantly. They replace my PSU from the store where I purchase it with a new one, same model and for almost 4 months, it works OK, my PC will turn ON instantly, and now it failed again, it will take times time to POWER On, they said the problem is the connector of the PSU at the back (cord that is detachable) but I have 2 PSU now with same model and same problem.

How's your PSU now, is it ok?
