Problem with storage drive

My Laptop with OS Vista, does not read/burn\ CDs while it reads DVDs.?
Like it will not play a Video or Audio CD, but will play a DVD. After inserting a CD, if I open My computer in the CD drive it says, Insert CD.Please guide me what to do.

CD/DVD lasers are on separate heads. You could try running one of those cds through that is supposed to clean the laser, but I have never seen those work very well. If it's under warranty contact the manufacture. If it's not you may want to look at a small usb cd/dvd drive as that will likely be much less expensive then trying to find a replacement one to match your laptop. Particularly if you don't actually use the drive very often a usb drive would work well.
