I put together a computer for a friend about 2 weeks ago and have been having problems with it ever since. I'll list the parts used at the bottom but it's been getting blue screens of death and distorted screens. The main blue screens I've seen are IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and BAD_POOL_HEADER. I've tried a complete reformat and the blue screens aren't as often but still haven't gone away.

I've tried a new power supply, different ram and put the video card in my personal computer. The video card ran fine in my computer, the different ram and power supply in the system made no difference as well. If I have the video card out of the computer and use on board video the computer runs fine as well.

Aside from the blue screens here is what the picture sometimes looks like instead when it locks up:

I'm running out of ideas of what to try now. Anyone else had a similar problem and could offer me some advice?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm running windows 7 64 bit. Figured that would be kinda important.

Are you using the blue PCI-Ex16 slot on the motherboard?
Can you disable the on-board graphics?

First thing I'd normally suggest is an uninstall/reinstall of the graphic card drivers, but since you did a full format/install, chances are slim (but not out of the question) that the driver install fouled up twice in a row.

Yep the video card is using the blue PCI-Ex16 slot on the board. I have tried disabling the onboard video as well but still had the same problem.

I was actually thinking it was a driver problem that's why I went with a clean install. I have the most up to date driver loaded for the video card and updated the bios on the motherboard as well just to make sure I had things up to date. Should I try rolling back to an older driver on the video card?

I have the same mobo (other components are different except for Ripjaw RAM) on a brand new sytem and am having a similar problem. It randomly but frequently completely locks up while playing games, and sometimes, the machine shuts off by itself, even when not playing. I thought for sure a faulty power supply after running various tests on the memory, CPU (965) and video card (6870) that didn't turn up a problem, but not so sure anymore.

I eventually got it working for me. I tried different power supplies and ram with no luck. I ended up using old drivers for the video card and it's been running great ever since. Not sure if that could be the same problem for you or not but that's what worked for me.
