I've never understood the point of such powerful (kinda) hardware stuck in a TINY screen. Maybe I'm just used to the first Gameboy & GameGear. :-(

Dont blame you havent used a handheld since then, not really drawn to them anymore. If I had to choose one id choose the 3ds as its the cheaper one and it has alot more games im interested in (Kid Icarus springs to mind)

I'm not sure what you were getting at with this comment. Are you trying to argue that portable gaming is pointless? The Vita has the largest screen of the portable gaming systems out nowadays and the power to drive heavy-duty games. It's definitely handicapped by the lack of original titles, but the hardware itself is quite solid.

Ive been interested in getting a vita before, but now Im not all that excited. when they release more than a few good original games on it, then I may just buy it. or if I decide to get a ps4 which has a damn good integration with the vita.

It may have the largest screen among portable consoles but the ~$200 price point is getting flooded with 6-8" tablets that kind of redefine the display size people expect to see at that price point.

Personally, gaming even on a 7" screen for stuff much beyond Cut-the-Rope, Fruit Ninja and Bad Piggies is not particularly enjoyable.

I bought one last black Friday, with ACIII bundle, but all I did since aquiring it, was "read" about upcoming games, and have yet to see any of them ever materialize. I wish They could just release Zelda and Mario on this. All I ever did was update its firmware 6 times, and played some lemmings on it, thank god that was free!. It's handy for wireless photo transfer, and the occasional Skype. Smartphones do this, but I am not wanting to sign on a phone plan that I'll never ever use.

In my retail experience, the 97 cents on the price often does signify either a closeout or discontinued product where stock will not be replenished, so that's possible.

Thats the games youre playing, not the screen size.

I did say portable gaming systems meaning consoles specifically; no matter how much I try, I can't get into the majority of games that use touch-screen controls primarily. There's just not enough control to enjoy them. Emulators, fighting games, etc., that are designed with the touchscreen version of direction controls and buttons just leave too much of the screen real estate covered by fingers and become worthless to play on. Alternatively, the screen is too big (for tablets instead of phones) to be comfortable playing games in that manner for long.

The Vita is very comfortable to hold and to play for hours at a time. It's also powerful enough to handle any portable game out there, and the screen is fantastic. Unfortunately it's mostly crippled by lack of support from Sony (overpriced memory sticks and games, lack of original titles, and lack of compatible games on PSN that there's no reason to be missing, such as Final Fantasy, games available in other regions, etc.) and a transition to casual gaming (phones).

I'm still waiting for a handheld that you can hook up to a TV via a MicroHDMI and use as a controller when you're at home. Sometimes I just wanna play some Pokeymans on the big screen.

I've tried to stay young at heart and into this stuff but I just can't get into serious portable gaming like this widget allows anymore. Really loved the Metroid on the gameboy back in '92. Getting old sucks, but it does beat the alternatives.

Halcyon: I don't play very seriously either. I take my Vita to work for lunch break on occasion, and play with it when watching TV with the girlfriend as most shows/movies don't require enough attention to keep me mentally occupied without some form of additional distraction.

I was almost excited when I read the thread title. Then I see the price cut is only for the 3g model.
Who's going to pay for 3G anyways?
Let me know when if the Wifi model drops in price.

A tablet is not a portable gaming system, and never will be. Not to mention that the hardware on the PS Vita is still more powerful than most if not all $200 tablets. Also, most 200$ tablets don't have 3G.

I knew there'd be a price drop coming once they announced remote play with the PS4. There are a few Vita games I want so I might get one to go with my PS4 if they ever lower the price of the Wifi model.

I got a psp 3000 few years ago, put a custom firmware on and got a few iso.... I found that most games that existed on pc or playstation where way more interesting than on the ps. Only because they cut off some content out of it. As an example: the godfather. The psp version is way too short.

It was only 120 $ case and football game included. Still think it wasn't worth it.

@thillntn

My guess is:

1) they'll drop the sweet OLED screen for some cheap ass LCD.
2) ditch one of the two cameras.
3) and cheapen out on the building materials.

For their third iteration they'll probably just put a cardboard cutout in the box.
