Question PSU missing PCIe 6-pin ?

Hi All,

I have had a good look through the threads and usual recommendation in the situation where there is not a PCI-e adapter is to get a new PSU.

My situation is a little different. I inherited a MSI B560M bazooka with i5-11400F and a Gt1030 which I want to upgrade to a GeForce GTX960.

It has an Aywun A1-5000 500W PSU connected to it.

Everywhere I look online the PSU is listed as having:
> 500W, 20+4 PIN ATX with cable sleeving, 1x(P4+P4) EPS, 1x 6-PIN PCI-Express VGA, 4x SATA, 4x Molex
(eg: https://www.jw.com.au/product/aywun-power-supply-unit-500-w-24-pin-atx-white)

For some reason my one has:
> 500W, 20+4 PIN ATX with cable sleeving, 1x(P4+P4) EPS, and then something like 6-8x SATA and 2-3x Molex

Does anyone know if there is a simple plug/cable change that can be accessed inside the PSU to get a PCI-e connection as the current models have?
I have tried searching for a company website for aywun but havent had any luck with that.

If you value your system you would really want to dump this thing and get something decent with 7~10 yr warranty. That psu doesn't even list wattage for 12v rail on the label so who knows what it's really putting out. Might've been ok with low powered graphics card like GTX 1030 but not GTX 960. Wouldn't be 500w that's for sure, probably half that at best.

Cheers for the reply - any recommendations for a PSU (eg wattage, brands, etc) in the <$100 price range.

Corsair Rmx 650w, how much is that for you?

Do you have 960 yet? How much is it second hand? Because Rx 580 is still being sold new without breaking the bank and is quite a bit better than 1060.

hi thanks for the quick reply. I bought the 960 already. I paid AUD30 for it (about USD20).

RM650x is for sale on ebay used and delivered for AUD109 (USD73) or best offer so maybe around AUD100-105? The seller says it was used for about 1yr. Brand new AUD200ish (USD135)

out of curiosity what is the advantage of the 650x over the 650? (sorry I have literally learnt 99% of my limited PSU knowledge in the last hour)

probably a dumb question but looking at the connectors, I need a 6pin PCIe - but the VGA connectors on the side of this look like 8pin. Do you just plug a 6pin cable into the 8pin slot (ie is the 8pin backwards compatible to 6pin)

also postage on that one is like $20 so cheaper on Amazon at like $137.

how does it compare to Gigabyte 750W Aorus 80+ Gold Power Supply (GP-UD750GM) ($129 on amazon)

Both are good and offer 10yr warranty. Though x uses Japanese capacitors while non x use Chinese. Japanese caps have always been better but shouldn't matter really.

Psu from Bitfenix offer 7yr warranty, is still very good.

Pcie 8 pin cables connecting to the graphics card are 6+2, so the +2 end can be left unplugged unless you had a graphics card requiring 8. Caters for either.

thank you for the explanation boju!
I just saw I can get the Gigabyte GP-UD750GM for around $115 on ebay. Is it comparable?
