PSU Problems

Hi guys, just wondering if you could help me out with a little dilema that I have.

I recently uprgaded my PC as it was getting a little dated and was in need of some TLC. I have upgraded my pc to the following specs:

Asus Sabertooth 990fx(new)
AMD Phenom 2 X4 980 Black edition(new)
Nvidia 260 GTX(had this from before)
16gb DDR3 RAM(corsair Vengance to be specific(new))
2 sata 2 HDD drives(one is a low power version(old))
sata optical drive(new)
and a 650watt PSU(Antec TruePower New 650W (new))

My problem is that when I have all this connected up, my GPU will not power up properly and the fan on it doesn't start to spin which means im going no where with my pc. I have tried my GPU in my brothers PC and it works in there, and I have also tested his 260GTX in mine and I get the same problem. I have even replaced my PSU from a 550W to a 650W as I thought it was the PSU cable for the PCI-E not working as I didnt have my brothers PC at the time to mess about with. Could this be an issue with the PCI-E ports on the mobo at all as the rest of the devices in the PC power up fine.

Any help would be great.

If your brother's PSU is available then why dont fit it in yours and see if it works? If that doesn't work... then i think your PCI slot on the motherboard is a problem.

P.S. - You Leeds fan by any chance? :)
 
I have plugged my GPU into his PC and it works in there, that is a reason why I replaced the PSU as I thought it might have been teh cable on the PSU that had gone.

Not a Leeds fan, local boy, Rotherham United!!!
 
Spoken with Scan(who I bought it off and they agree with me that its a mobo problem, with all the tests I could do, its the only thing that I could think of, none of the PCI-E ports work at all
 
Remove all the RAM, remove the CPU and check that is properly installed as well as the CPU cooler.

Remove the battery for 10 second and install it again, install only two RAM stick and try again.

@OP: Just one sec... Go into BIOS... Into the advanced section and then see which is the primary display set to. All BIOS's have different menus, so look up every page and find it. It should be set to PCI. For Asus i think its inside the North Bridge Settings segment or something. AsRock should be any different i hope.

I just got beat by Rotherham yesterday in FIFA 12... cost me the Championship! 🙁
 
To be honest, i couldnt even get to see the bios screen, nothing was being fed to my monitor when I had it plugged in, I think my title might be slightly mis-leading unfortunatly.

Ive got the old parts back in now so
 
Hi guys i am experiencing quite annoying problem and i am not sure whether is

the PSU or another component to blame. my config is :

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on:

QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 840, 3200 MHz
MoBo Asus M4A77T
chipset AMD 770, AMD K10
Kingston 4 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 5670 (1024 MB) 128 bit GDDR5
HDD WD 500GB
PSU: no name 600 watt :)


I'll try to be brief. I've recently built my own PC it worked fine when started
to give me a couple of freezes during i was doing smth in internet, crashed
couple of times during games,( not very often, sometimes it doesn do anything
problematic and work fine), and restarts at random. I was thinking it is a
problem maybe with the drivers, malware, viruses or not updated win version, but
yesterday it restarted when i was in BIOS. I want to narrow the possible reasons
for this particular issue. I am starting to think it is the bad PSU which is a
chinese piece of ***. And before i go to spend some money on Corsair or whatever
better one there is i'd like to exclude the other possible reasons if u could
help me with that. Clearly it is not software issue according to the fact it
restarted in BIOS. What I have done so far:

- I checked all the wiring
- reseated all possible components
- clean dust
- check the temp and fans (everything is the optimum)
- i havent overclocked the system
- ran some stability test of CPU and RAM for couple of hours. passed well.

something strange i noticed is on +12 rail i have only 11.856 v. before couple
of months was 11.944 v. and yesterday i plugged a tv tunner and became 11.755.
During game it goes below 11.6 V. And with this PSU i have 25 amp on the +12 V
rail.
what do u think is it the PSU because the other option is a failing component
maybe Mobo i really dont want to be that.

Had a reply from Scan, apparently the mobo is fine. Now they want me to send in the CPU to see if that is the cause, although I fail to see how that would stop the GPU from powering up correctly.

Any thoughts guys?
 
I have also run some PSU calculators and the 650w PSU im using is fine, even under full load its still more than i need by like 100+ watts. This is what is most confusing about this.
 
Agreed mate, ill play the game, I nearly blew my lid when the guy at scan this morning said you may have installed the CPU wrongly, if i installed it wrong, i would have broken some of th pins off the CPU and i know I havnt done that lol
 
I think they might get a few expletives if that happens, considering that my brother has a near identical setup to me(i built it for him) and that works fine in his pc and works fine in the old stuff, i wouldnt be happy if they did though
