Corsair's fix for the RM heat issue is BS in my opinion. Instead of using higher quality parts that won;t overheat, they just changed a resistor so the fan spins faster sooner. Sort of like pulling a band-aid on a gunshot wound. It'll stop the bleeding, but it won't save your life.

Just because you don't see the bleeding anymore, doesn't mean it's not still happening internally. I think that applies to the RM unit as well. This isn't much different than the AMD FX-9xxx. Yes it works. Yes you can keep it stable. Yes, you need to use an industrial air mover to do it.

alright thanks for the help on the corsair psu's, they don't seem to have a good value on them, so i will avoid them. the antec hcg 900w, looks really cool for a red themed build, so i may buy one of those soon, funny back then the corsair tx950 was around the same price and gave a good value for a quality unit, it was exactly a buck cheaper according to the johnnyguru review on the hcg 900w and gave 50 more watts, really sad corsair has degraded and relies off brand name for sales 🙁 and the tx is discontinued btw

Not it wasn't.

They didn't just lower the thermistor value. They actually added a second thermistor in a completely different location to capture different temperatures with the PSU at different orientations. That's even stated in the "official statement" from Corsair about the problem. And even this "fault" (which only appeared in the initial lot code of the PSUs) and this "fix" only applied to the first generation of RM made by Chicony. Those were replaced by CWT built units that are nearly identical to the current RMx and Newegg is practically giving these away because they're EOL and replaced by the RMx.

The official post can be found here: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=123484

Affected lot code is < 1341. That means it was made prior to the 41st week of 2013.

All of the units @ Newegg are CWT and not Chicony.

Yeah, that's a pretty typical response from that particular source. Clearly they prefer insults and belittlement to enlightenment and gentle correction. We can't all work for Corsair and know exactly what they've done to fix their shortcomings.

You're right. That place is a lot worse.

I rephrased my original post.

Why do I bother coming here? No idea. Probably because I don't like seeing such misinformation spread as fact. Just look at the chain of posts:

First: Made up information

Result: Other user than extrapolates that entire company is in the crapper because of said misinformation.

I've said it before in this very thread. In my opinion, this whole list is comprised of misinformation and opinion. And not just Corsair. But Antec, Enermax... This list serves to do little but show fan boyism. But, yes. The one at LTT is a hell of a lot worse.

I feel my "help" is in the form of pointing out misinformation.

If you don't want me to "snub" your community, stop making mods out of people that make up information instead of posting facts.

You can learn plenty when it comes to the basics, in this community. When it comes to such detailed discussion the opinions could always vary, even from users within the same forum. Just because a couple phrase what they think, doesn't mean it should represent the entirety of the forum. Which forums do you think are much better? Enthusiast sites like Overclock.net? It's not really what Tom's Hardware is even intended to be.

If you don't like it here then leave, simple. I really don't care who you are or what company you work for, your attitude sucks so roll your neck in or go.

"

OK, what made up information...

Also, I don't think anyone has every said that EVERY CORSAIR PSU is crap.. Just the lower end ones...

Anything with the namebrand "generic" should be a warning to ANYONE not to buy it. And it's too generic(pun intended) for us to put it on the list.

The only CX unit that I could see myself recommending is the CX 430m, for a low power Mini ITX build, with up to a Skylake CPU and GTX 950. Evga B2 750 is priced so well anymore, that none of the other CX units make much sense. I don't hate Corsair, and still use their products, and recommend their LPX ram often, but their PSU's just are not financially wise purchases, right now, when you can get better units for the same price, if not less. If I had to buy a PSU today, it would probably be a G2 750w. I highly doubt you would say the CSM 750 is as good as the G2 750, yet they are the same price. Even if they were as good, that 10yr warranty is too good to pass up.

It does depend on which case you'll be building in. For example I don't think the Corsair 88R fits any Super Flower power supply, somehow making the Corsair RM 650 watts a viable choice in that particular situation. Not a bad power supply at all either I don't think.

Update: This no longer seems to be the case as the Corsair RM 650w now costs 100 dollars, I've regularly seen it at 80 dollars the week before this. EVGA GS 650 watts the better deal at 90 dollars.

I like Corsair cases, fans, memory, and even some of their ssds, but there is no price point in which I would even consider a Corsair power supply.

I don't really care for their coolers, but I don't care for liquid cooling in general so that's not really anything against them.

GS 650 for $90 a good deal?! FSP Hydro G sits at $80 for 650 W.
And like CTurbo said, Corsair PSUs are not good when cheap, and not cheap when good.

The older posts were deleted, but I just don't understand your frustration towards some posts I'm not even sure which one we are aiming towards? Do you disagree with cheap Corsair power supplies being bad for example? As that's what the recent posts were about. If that's true, why do you think that is completely false and that these units are good quality? Like, expressing your thoughts is one thing, but if one side is trying It's best to reason why and one side is just dismissing it without reasoning it is simply unfair and doesn't lead anywhere.

Like, I'm quite open-minded with discussions like this but only when they are actual discussions like.
