Which simplifies matters. Because any OEM or 3rd party with questionable units won't dare send JG a psu to be reviewed, but units like the SuperFlower leadex or Seasonic platinum's will still be sent as the OEMs will have faith in a decent psu. Makes for a 2 tier system, if it has a review it's decent to great, if no review it's junk.

Power supplies have never really been my strong point, but I have a friend asking for recommendations on good power supplies at $50. His build is pretty standard and he shouldn't need anything above 500w. Anyways, what would guys recommend at this price point?

XFX TS, seasonic M12II/S12II, corsair CXM should be in your budget. The rosewill quark 550w platinum psu was $50 on sale couple of weeks ago. This costs more than 100 normally.

If you need more specific recommendation, open up a thread.

I don't think the Rosewill Glacier would be very good. For the price it runs (600W for $50 on Newegg) and being semi modular (which costs money) I'm sure performance stinks. I'm also sure that it's probably not Haswell ready like it says on the Newegg page. Very few designs are actually capable of mustering up semi modularity with good performance for a low price, like the new CXM, but I believe in CWT to make such a good thing more than Andyson.

So Corsair's new Cx series power supplies can be recommended now? Were all of the Cx series re-released or do you just mean the CX450M?

In about a month they're going to release the revised CX series. The new ones that are out are CXM units which 450-850W are new. Previously there were 750W and 850W CXM units so you can identify the new ones because they are grey instead of green.

It's what this whole thread is about .....

Maybe not the best way,but it gives people a way of checking what quality the psu is when they intend to buy. A shame most really never look but rather ask.

In this thread have been discussions about what way would be better, but none have come up with something else decent or are willing to spend time on it,but you are welcome to try ...
