Sorry, but I completely disagree. G1 units have 4% voltage swing on the 3.3,5,12v rails. Aside from the 5v rail these scores are WORSE than the CX units. So I still firmly stand by my statement that the G1 units need to be tier4 or the CX brought back up to tier3. Unless you are considering the fact that the capacitors on the G1 are slightly better than the Corsair. I still fail to see how that fact makes them an entire tier apart when the G1 clearly perform the same or EVEN WORSE than the CX.
 
Reviews from JonnyGuru, TechPowerUp and HardOCP (aka the Big Three) do suggest that the Aurum units, at least from the ones I've been looking at have been pretty good, such as the Aurum Pro 1000w and 1200w and the Aurum Xilencer 500w.

I do admit, some of the Aurum series units need to be seriously improved. But for now, as I do a bit of investigating, they stay at Tier 3.
 
Then move SOME of the Aurum/G1 units to tier 4, and leave the decent ones in tier 3. Either way it makes no sense for the CX to be tier 4 if the G1 are tier 3. Every review of the CX aside form one mark them as pretty solid. The Aurum units that are the same platform as the EVGA G1 are the Aurum 92+, not the PRO or Xilencer. They need to be broken up and placed accordingly. Just like how the Corsair RM units are in tier 3 and 2. No different.
 


As stated, I will investigate the Aurum platform based units and give an update. Please bare with me, as this can take a couple of days, due to work and stuff.
 
G1 is NOT Aurum. Demote the G1, sure, but Aurum is a different animal.

Seasonic also has TFX units that are good in mini-ITX systems. FSP has some SFX units that reviewed well at HardwareSecrets and/or JG also; I think the Silverstones might be rebadged FSP.
 
The InWin TFX units they include in their mini-ITX cases look to be tier-3. C.Hegge at Hardware Insights reviewed one and found it reasonable, although it does have a Samxon cap in it. Smaller ITX boxes tend to be very low power though, (e.g. limited to half-height graphics cards), so a tier-3 PSU should hold up fine. I used one with an i5-3570K and a HD7750 for months without problems. That machine has been in fairly heavy use by someone else for months since then, and is still going strong. It pulls 126W from the wall under heavy load, which is nothing for a 300W PSU.

No, it's not. It has cheap caps, just like the CX, CS and RM. Just because you've been fortunate with your unit, or have a unit that's of much higher capacity than what's needed, doesn't mean somebody with a unit that is closer to their actual needed capacity is going to have the same luck.
 
The VS is an entry level psu, and as a series it's very, very good at only one thing. Being thoroughly mediocre. It's entire design is centered around covering the middle bases. Mediocre outputs, mediocre voltages, mediocre ripple, mediocre stability, mediocre build and warranty. What it's not designed for his high demands, high temps, hard usage etc. It's under those conditions, namely OC and gaming, the CX/VS tend to fall apart in a hurry. A 650w psu on a system only pulling @350w is fine, even for a VS, but it's different having a $50 psu that's questionable to last 6 months and a $80 psu that's extremely likely to live on well past its 5 yr warranty.
 
VS is not a good PSU as the others have said. Look where it is tiered.

Not all Aurum's are created equally. Last year I had a guy bring me a 1000w Aurum PT and two 290x. I was very impressed with the build quality and how quiet it was even under load. I felt like it was the 90s all over again.

Apparently it is still running strong.

Sorry to jump in late to the conversation, but as I understand it (after reading through the last page or 2): The CX series is in tier 4 due to recent reviews and accounts of units dying within 6-8 months? I've read a few reviews stating that the quality of the CX series is good enough for entry level. That doesn't strike me as tier 4 aka don't touch with a 20ft pole?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
