Ugh, just read that article, Evga turning to FSP/HEC, Rosewill turning to Enhance, Corsair RMi already dumped in favor of RMx.... All this after the success of the Super flower designs and general dismal performance of the RM line. Wtf are these ppl thinking? At least CM seems to have a brain expanding the V series into 550w+ range

Don't worry, when the war with China starts and we abandon manufacturing ties with them, everything will be Japanese, and much higher quality. See you in the "after". Ok, I'm kidding. But it could happen. South Korean or better yet Tokyo power supplies anyone? I'm REALLY amazed that there are no Japanese built power supplies on the market to be honest.

Manufacturing is cheaper in China.

That is a great site. Never seen it before but it's damn sure a needed resource.

Edit: Just created an account but I don't see anywhere to post. :??:

Corsair has a longgggg history of changing OEMs and platforms on a seemingly monthly basis. Nothing new there.

Website owner here. Creating an account allows you to post comments under news items, or under brand platform pages such as http://www.orionpsudb.com/evga .

I think you may have made a typo - RMi isn't dumped in favor of RMx. In the US, there will be RMi everywhere, RMx exclusively in Newegg, and normal RM everywhere. In the world outside of the US, there will be RMi everywhere, normal RM and RMx, with RMx eventually replacing the normal RM.

About the Capstones G - the lower wattage models (550W-750W) are based on a more modern version of the platform from Cooler Master VS, which already performs slightly better than Rosewill Capstone, so I'm certain these will be nice too. It's about the design, not the manufacturer. So let's wait until they get reviewed to be sure. Remember that Super Flower doesn't actually manufacture many of their units for EVGA or other brands - they are made by somebody who most of you really don't like... but they still do use Super Flower's designs, which is why they are really good.

Well cool. Basically I just wanted to post to tell you what you just quoted. Great site and a needed resource.

I didn't realize SuperFlower didn't actually manufacture those units. Strange that the build quality is maintained if they are farmed out. That's never mentioned in reviews.

So, not to cast doubt on your statements, but I'd be very skeptical about Super Flower, Seasonic or any other OEM allowing other companies to build units for somebody using their platforms and designs without some hand in the process, especially in the area of quality assurance. I could be wrong, but most manufacturers with a good name don't like letting somebody else stomp on their reputations. Especially if it means somebody is going to be saying " X platform" and "poor build quality" in the same sentence. Not that THAT is the case, but you see what I mean. If they start (Super Flower, again, for example) letting Enhance or FSP, as an example, build units for vendors using their own platforms, and they aren't building them to the quality that they would, that would just be a mess in every imaginable way.

Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you were stating.

Super Flower's factory, Jing-Hua, is pretty small. With all the orders they get from EVGA, their own retail arm, and other companies, they have no choice but to outsource production to other contractors to meet the demand - and not to just one factory.

Example: one of such factories is Shenzhen Rui Sheng Yuan Technology, which manufactures part of Super Flower's orders for products based on Golden King, Golden Green and similar designs from this series. Shenzhen Rui Sheng Zuan were also a subcontractor for former Topower and Huntkey.

I rehosted a specification PDF I once accessed from some place, take a look: http://orionpsudb.com/application/files/6614/4282/9355/SFExportSRTC.pdf

They also use some more known companies. Not Enhance or FSP, but it does have three capital letters in its name if you look at it in the right way - and it's usually not associated with quality products at all. And the little quirks that different factories have show in the reviews sometimes - if you look at the reviews of certain lower-end products from EVGA or other brands by SF, you may notice some imperfections in things like soldering quality, with some of them pointed out by the reviewer.
Now they still perform as good as what you'd expect the platform, since it's the same design after all. Just assembled by different people, which I don't think is a big deal at all when the occasional QC slips are kept under control. Some of Super Flower's contractors don't care about the quality of their own units, but when they are ordered to make products for Super Flower, they both (the OEM and Super Flower) make sure to do their best.

I have seen it maxed out in a lot of games like gta v,batman arkham knight,ac unity, shadow of mordor (med textures), The witcher 3, cod aw and many more.. Thats why I will probobly sell it in a few months and save up some more for nvidia pascal or gtx 980 ti Depending on the prices at the time i ll buy it

As an engineer, I can understand this. May not have had personal experience with it, but we see it sometimes, even here.

🙁 wish I wasn't an ignorant American...

Really funny you mention the soldering as I've seen that mentioned in quite a few reviews. I have an EVGA by SuperFlower and I'm glad it's still the base platform, but I wish it had been built by Super Flower exclusively. Any chance they'll be expanding so as to cut back on the subcontracting??

What article is this? I didn't see it... And I would like to read it.

Seems reasonable I suppose. I wasn't aware that any of the top name manufacturers were farming work to facilities outside their own sphere of control though. Good to know. On the flip side, welcome to the site and I'd just like to say that it would be nice to have another member who contributes to this conversation, at least, that has additional insights on the platform side of things. Some of this information is difficult to come by without resources like yours. Always good to have an additional resource.

Guess that also answers the question as to why some units, like those that get good reviews on one site, even as far as build quality goes, and something totally different on another site. Seems some of those units that get glowing reviews are likely to have come from primary building locations and then the ones we actually see, that exhibit problems not reflected in those reviews, may be likely to have come from these secondary build locations/companies.

Maybe I'm just blind, but I didn't read a dang thing about EVGA in that article?? Nor Corsair...
